Max Delmege is adamant he will live long enough to see Manly win another premiership, even though his beloved Sea Eagles are testing his patience. And his ticker.
Just days after the thrilling win against Melbourne, Delmege ended up in hospital with a heart issue. Turns out the property developer, who injected more than $10 million to save the once-embattled NRL franchise, requires open-heart surgery.
Delmege will undergo the procedure at Gold Coast Private Hospital on Monday after checking in the night before.
Having saved the Sea Eagles when they were on life support, Delmege is staring down the latest setback with his usual stoicism.
"It is what it is, you’ve got to do it," Delmege said. "I’ve got to hang around to watch Manly win another premiership."
