IT was supposed to be a celebration of the past by the men charged with carrying the Broncos into the future.
Instead the opening night of the club's 25th anniversary roadshow left the Broncos deflated and their character in question after being run over by a Manly side brilliantly led by Daly Cherry-Evans.
All the hype over the milestone quickly disappeared as Brisbane coach Anthony Griffin lamented a lack of desire in the second half of the 22-14 loss.
"I thought we just rolled over early in that second half," he said.
"Ten minutes before halftime Manly looked like they couldn't pick their feet up when we wanted to control possession and come at them.
"We just didn't earn the right early in the second half to grind the game out."
