Game Day: Manly v Roosters [Round 2, 2024]

We look a proper football team this year.

Its mostly been silly errors that has us only leading by 2 instead of about 12.

If we're good enough the ginger ninja with the whistle or the Sutton cartel in the bunker won't be a factor.

to be honest - i haven't had a huge issue with the refereeing.

We've had some go our way as well.

If Brandy Alexander really hated Manly, why would his very talented son be in our junior system instead of the Roosters' (when they wanted him there)?

But I digress.

Decent half of footy from us. I like the tempo we're playing with in attack, but I'm still a little horrified by how easily and quickly we've given up tries both times we've scored.

Biggest plus for me is that we haven't been overrun in the forwards. To the contrary, I think our pack has played really well.

If we can show a little more patience with the ball and make the most of our opportunities, we are in with a real shot.

Our defense needs work but attack is looking good.

Still think roosters to run over the top of us but we are in fight so let's see what happens.

Also, Brooks is going to be such a huge weapon for us going forward.

My take on that half
We had enough ball and chances should be up by 8-12 points
DCE not having his best game
Brooks looks dangerous
Koula strong
We are missing Saab badly today.
Forwards started strong.

In saying all that
Roosters have destroyed our right side defense.
They have only 4/5 play the balls in our 20 for 2 tries.

I still say if they get any decent ball in our 20 They will run away with it

To me turbo not as damaging today

We need to score first to be any chance this half.

yes, we got stripped on that right side in defence but we had better field position all half cause we earned it… our forwards have bashed theirs, our runs around the ruck have been incisive and our ball spreads have been effective… we have made SFA errors outside of the attacking 20m and the rorters are not getting easy field positions with one of their tries coming from an offside penalty that gave them a rare attacking six from the 35…
We could have finished some attacks better but overall we deserve to be in front by more because we were the better side in the first half…

Been watching on 9 but Brandy is usually neutral. I generally find him one of the best commentators.

We looked frantic to me
If we played smart footy we left a lot of points out there in that half.
You watch roosters any good ball they will make us pay.
Still hoping we can hang in the fight but going to be tough.

60% possession if that turns around we are gone. Rorters down in our 20 twice and scored easily. Attack is disjointed , DCE doing headless chook plays thank goodness for Brooks and Brown giving us some go forward.

Still too defensively frail (inconsistent) for my liking, but hats off the the recruitment... we have certainly moved forward improving holes from last season

The difference between winning and losing this game is DCE and Garrick. If they stand flat footed and let the Roosters ball play, they’ll score another 2-3 tries down our right edge.

I couldnt see us making the 8 just 14 days ago.

Not getting carried away but this is a different side all together. It feels and looks different.

I feared we could be 0 and 5 with Eels, Dragons and Panthers to come.

Remember we have the breeze with us in the 2nd half. Koula and Brooks can well and truly turn this game around in the blink of an eye. It wouldn't surprise me if we score 18 pts within the space of 7 or 8 minutes and not score another point. It feels like one of those games

Especially when you look at who we're playing.
