Manly v Rorters - Round 19, 2018 Pre-Game

Manly and Roosters recent contests have tended to have quite a bit of open play and could suit Tom Wright's style of play and a good opportunity to show his undoubted talent . Still contracted for next season but the sooner that he can establish himself as a i st grade standard player , the better of course for him and the club . Anyway again, has been given his opportunity now and certainly hope that he can make the most of it and show what he can be capable of .

Looking forward to seeing more of Tom Wright. Hopefully its a more open game then last week. I still think he has a big future at 6.

Part of Wright's problem on Saturday night was that:

A) he didn't get any decent ball all night.

B) to add to A. Melbourne from their 8 metres were continually rushing up to shut him down. He just had no room to move.

That was part of why we only scored the two tries from Lane crashing over. They were not only offside all night without being called, but they shut down Tom Wright and that left only DCE and to a lesser extent Tommy, Jake and Fainu to do any ball movement that wasn't a Kapow or AFB offload.

Compare the named side with who would probably be our strongest 17 if like St Merge and didn't have injuries from arsehole to breakfast time.

Named:
T. Trbojevic, M. Wright, Suli, Kelly, Parker, T. Wright, Cherry-Evans, Fonua-Blake, Fainu, Taupau, Thompson, Lane, J. Trbojevic. Bench - Hodkinson, Tanginoa, Winterstein, Paseka.

Best (IMO):
T. Trbojevic, Taufua, Suli, Kelly, Uate, Walker, Cherry-Evans, Fonua-Blake, Koroisau, Taupau, Thompson, Sironen, J. Trbojevic. Bench - Hodkinson (T. Wright), Lane, Tanginoa, Paseka.

Matt Wright, Brad Parker, Manese Fainu and Frank Winterstein at least would be playing for Blacktown with either Hodkinson (or knowing Barrett) most likely Tom Wright joining them.

That's at least 5 reserve grade players who are currently in the 17 who under ideal circumstances would not be there.

That's my opinion anyway.

I was pretty bliiiiind whilst watching the Storm game but I barely noticed T Wright was on the field tbh. Did he actually have an ok 5/8 game???? Im not being a smart ass btw. I just didnt sight him much.

Ahhhhmmmm..apart from Parra we got off to a bad start ...Api played and we still lost..
I commented on his Instagram to run and kick more just to keep teams guessing ..he like it .
I have noticed when he makes 20+ tackles a game we win, conversely when he makes 40+ tackles we lose

T Wright is a dynamic runner and his best position is not hooker or 5/8 . His best position is the running centre position .

With his skills he should be in a running 6 role. I've noticed he has a decent kicking and from what I have seen in all his reserves and or 20 matches I have seen he has a wicked long pass. Hopefully we can see him with more space this weekend I just think moving players with these skills to the outside backs is a waste of talent.

Could it be that when we have no ball he has to make more tackles and we are losing, and more ball, less tackles, we are winning.
That's what your numbers say to me.

Statistics are just numbers, not necessarily any certain particular trend.

Edit: typo

When (if) Walks and Jorge return to the side, I'd like to see Wright moved to centre and Suli pushed out to the wing.

A backline of Turbo, Jorge, TGWH, Kelly, Suli, Walks and DCE could be a very potent one. And with Kapow, Jake and AFB providing the forward platform its something to work on.

Of course, we could have the Kangaroos test backline and we would still struggle to put points on the board with the structures our coach has us playing.
