Media Narrative Around Manly

I'm interested to hear other people's thoughts on the media narrative around Manly at the moment. I feel like any little scrape of controversy the media jumps on it and tries to hammer us down, which impacts the impression of many fans on this forum as well as in the greater Manly community. It also potentially influences the perception of our club with other players that we may be trying to sign or even players we're trying to re-sign internally.

Some examples include the Garrick negotiations. The way the media frames it is like "Manly have dropped the ball", but maybe Manly have actually stayed strong in these negotiations and that's why it's stalled a little bit. Even with the Turbos and DCE and all that kind of stuff, I feel like there could have been a much more Manly positive narrative if the journalists chose to do so, but there appears to be some form of leak or agenda which is fueling all of this negativity towards our club.

I aways think this.....

Yeah agree 100%.

What we dont know is the percentage of truth they are putting out there.

So much of the rubbish comes from Player Agents leaking what they feel may best serve their clients.

The hardest part for me personally is that loyalty is dead and nothing seems sacred anymore.

I watched the replay of the 1971 Grand Final the other day and really enjoyed watching the players when the full time siren went. No one cried, none fell to ground, no coaches were soaked with buckets of gatorade, no hangers on (read reserves, injured palyers, medical staff, ball boys, parking attendants, groundsmen etc) ran onto to the field in a frenzy.

The players shook hands and traded jerseys. How refreshing even though it was from another time, I had almost forgot how great those days were.. It was a time when the game was played for the people.

And they were all back at work on Monday morning.

Yes it's almost all media beat ups and most of it comes from hack journalists who are either doing the bidding of player agents or sniffing around on forums for scuttlebutt.

Fox seems to be the only network with amicable access to our higher ups so if it doesn't come from them I take it with a huge grain of salt.

Yeah absolutely agree. What's interesting thou it's not just one company.

It's like our new Media Man or the club in general has pissed all the journos off. Either that or a player Manager or two has called in a favour or 3.

I wonder if relationships with journos and Mestrov deteriorated after the Turtle on 9 earlier this year. And subsequent articles got published.

The journos are just giving it to Manly any and every chance they can, kick in the guts whilst we're down stuff too.

Look up Searoo Sports Management! How can a player manager be head of a Rugby League show on FOX? Anasta despises Manly. He’s manager of Cameron Munster, Lachlan Ilias, Jonah Pezet, Willie Peters plus a host of other sportsmen & sportswomen! How can he be non biased in his reporting? Isn’t his position a conflict of interest? The bias he shows towards the Roosters & Bulldogs is most annoying. I honestly do not trust that slimy piece of $hit!

What do you mean you dont trust him? With your wallet or your wife or both???

I wouldn't either.

The current version isnt always easy to love.
Mate our love for Manly is like a marriage. Some ups but a lot of downs 🤭. Remember the vows of ‘loving’ both in good times & in bad! Happy wife, happy life. Happy club, Premiers! Unfortunately our club is going thru the 7 year itch!! Needs a bit of spice on the side 😳…..maybe needs a divorce from the owners & a new one to jump into bed!
