Monday Buzz: Suburban ground boost for NRL fans

You want to stop pre-election promises turning into post-election memories ?

Write them into law.

If you make a promise, you submit it in writing to an independent body and if it's not delivered, you're dismissed and you have to repay all the money you earned or spend time in jail.

That'll shorten (no pun intended but a good one any way) them up in a big way and at least make them think before they open their traps and let the diarrhoea start running out.
Only problem with that remarkable suggestion is that politicians are the ones who create the laws.

"And while he has stopped short of guaranteeing funding to refurbish the likes of Brookvale, Campbelltown, Leichhardt, Shark Park and Kogarah . . ."
That says it all.
The Labor Party don't care about electorates north of the Harbour Bridge, and while I am opposed to the knock-down of Alliance Stadium and reckon the Liberal Party have made a lot of mistakes they are, unfortunately, the only viable option in this State election if you live on the Northern Beaches. At least they know where the Northern Beaches are!
Australian politics is in a sad state. Even a seemingly 'Independent' like Zali Steggall is being backed by the ratbag lefties of Get-Up.
Zali maybe getting supported by numerous anti Abbot groups that are not in line with your values but that in my opinion shouldn’t put you off voting for her.

We need pressure on the major parties to extract value for our community- making Warringah independent means the liberals will have to work harder (& commit cash to such things as Lottoland redevelopment) if they are to win back the seat at the following election.

NB Zali has clearly stated she has a strong centre/right bent. And I don’t live in the electorate by the way so I am generally unbiased

The Liberals won't be in power if they lose seats like Warringah. So, if you have liberal leanings then remember that a vote for her is effectively a vote for Labor.

Apart from Bob Katter, , and Ted Mack from the past, most of the elected independents past and future have all espoused middle of the road political values until elected, then they all swing sharply to the left like a porn star's d1ck, I have the feeling Zali's no different.
If you're pi$$ed off at Abbott for whatever reason, but can't vote for Labor, I somehow don't think Zali's the girl for you, as a vote for Zali is a vote for Labor by stealth.
There, got that one off my chest

So just continue voting for Abbott and continue to get nothing?

Einstein said something about continuing doing the same thing and expecting a different result.

The only way things will change is becoming marginal electorate

I wouid you rather vote for the Labor candidate than Zali, that way it may get closer to the possibility of it being a marginal seat.
An independent in a future Labor government probably won't change much for the possibility of funding for Brookvale

Disregarding the political games.
The points raised about watching footy at suburban grounds and the atmosphere at these places and identity of the teams and communities are extremely valid. So if these topics get any exposure it's good.
As for television coverage, watching a top 8 battle between souffs and chooks at an 80k seater with a scattering of 11,000 fans looks pathetic for the game and points out the inadequacies of the the current management.
Yeah Suncorp gets packed because they're a one team city and they're all very brainwashed from birth and there's nothing much else to do. You could probably halve the crowd numbers because they all have two heads remember.:giggle:
*Disclaimer - not meant to offend Queenslanders. I've lived here just over half my life now. Second head starting to emerge but it's a Manly supporter.

The dopes running the show lost touch with the grass roots and the tribalism of the game. Too busy talking the talk and being ruled by the broadcasters and financially powerful clubs (all three of them). What's really scary is that they will tell you until they are blue in the face that the game is in the best shape its has ever been in and when they do I pinch myself because I think I must be in the twilight zone. Nothing looks worse on television than a game in a large empty stadium. The game is spiraling on a number of fronts and sadly I can't see anything changing until we have a change of management and leadership.

#breaking A court has Granted an injunction to stop work on the Allianz stadium demolition until March 8
----
More Taxpayer funds being wasted on lawyers 😕
March 8 is still before the State election. In a sadistic way I'd like to see the Labor government elected in NSW. It would be disastrous for the State but it would keep us amused as they backtracked on their election promises, such as resurrecting Alliance Stadium and supporting suburban grounds such as Brookie.

Was Zaki Steggel a member of the Eagle Angels??
Yes she was.

Get these beautiful ladies back ! Did I read that this was in the works?
Not while the penns are still around , there is still bad blood between them and this group
It was for me one of the dumbest descisions by the club to annoy this group so bad they are no longer supporting the club and one in which the club will regret for many many years to come.

She comes from a sporting background, her father played rugby along with her grandfather, she is a former Eagles Angel, has a law degree, is born and bred on the northern beaches and is running for federal parliament.

I would suggest that if she gets elected there will be a good chance that promised Abbott money for Brookvale might get a bit of a kick along.

Fingers crossed

Her sporting achievements include Australia's only Olympic Alpine medal - a Bronze medal in Slalom at Nagano 1998, and was the world champion in Slalom after winning in Vail the next year.

I remember watching her race (on tv) waaaaaay back then.
