Munsters effort will do me

That farce with Munster yesterday says it all about The National Greenberg League

Lead runner on the 50th identical block play of the game cleans up the defender, then Munster runs 10 metres backward and falls on the ground with not a defender in sight. They penalise everything in the red zone to ruin the game yet play on !!!

WTF is this game. I watch a lot of junior and district football and it is still Rugby League they are playing.

The NRL is very close to losing me and plenty of others I know.

It is absolutely ridiculous.
I thought of another stupid but possible counter play.....say Brisbane at the time of the obvious indiscretion all put hands on heads without tackling Munster, he must play on right??
Then its a standoff as he doesn't want to walk over to score as it comes back to a Brisbane penalty.
In effect by the referee not making the decision, this is a possible glitch with where the game is today...
Its tough enough backing up to see substandard efforts from Manly, but this stuff is not the Rugby League I was bought up on.

Whatever happened to the old voluntary tackle?

Exactly - kind of where I was going HV8....the defence puts hands on heads and then it comes back to the attacker who dives on ground, voluntary ....noone touches him so supposedly has to play on....gets up after 10-15 seconds, scores the try which gets reviewed for 3 minutes....penalty Brisbane after wasting 5 minutes when Melbourne should have been penalised initially.
The fact he was not penalised, if Melbourne score same set - its a Massive glitch on the game....used to be simple yet effective rulings.

Personally I would like to see the refs actually call a voluntary tackle once in a while (though it would help if the defenders kept their hands off them.....which rarely happens. Its almost as dumb as decoy runners stopping in the line all the time and killing tries because they get called for obstruction). It would stop players falling on the ball and then just laying there waiting to be "tackled" so they can play the ball.

Make the buggers get up and run or call a voluntary tackle. Don't let them just lay there.

The game is sick, the idiots who come up with rules that allow this to happen are driving people from the game. The sad thing is referees are no longer allowed to take initiative. it is all about the bunker and they still muck it up!!! I think its got to the point, where the players, coaches, fans etc have lost total faith in how the game is officiated. We have one method for origin and an vastly different one for club football, where referee nitpicking is rampant right now!

The good news from the Melbourne perspective is the Victorian bandwagoneers have little to no idea about the rules - so the Squall can come up with that stuff and get away with it.

Speaking of Munster, he is a handful with the ball. I can't think of past players with a similar style, but there must have been some. Surely?

He’s not in the same class as Wally Lewis but Lewis was much like that when he ran the ball.Deceptively strong and seemed to break tackles with ease. Munster is bigger than he looks on TV. Grub but top player.

Doesn’t have Wally’s passing and kicking game though

I watched the Wallabies with the the other half on Saturday. Being from Vic. it was her first time watching a union match properly so I spent most of the time trying to explain the rules. Most of my comments ended with "I think" and then the ref would call something different anyway, then I realized that it wasn't that different from when I know watch a game of league with her. I used to love that the game (league) was easy to explain to anyone who had never really watched, it was after all developed as a game for everyone, rather than just for those who went to public school (private in Australia) to study the rules. I used to love the fact that I followed a game that was easy to understand and learn and almost anyone could play (if you were tough enough), but every year it feels like the NRL moves closer to the NFL - a game that the majority of the population will never play and with each play scrutinised by video refs, from a rulebook that most people could not understand - but hey it makes a s**t ton from adds so who cares.
