Non-Manly Games [Round 7, 2019]

OK, where did Klein pull that double movement call from?

It was a WTF? call of epic proportions.
1. He didn’t even get to the line
2. He didn’t even try to score
3. He didn’t even look like he was trying to score when he hit the deck
4. Klein was practically blowing the whistle for a penalty to Souffs when he was trying to stay in the tackle.

That penalty along with the one that Burgess milked were a disgrace, two penalties that Souffs didn’t even work for.
Then the non knock on call in the tackle before Walkers last try was mind boggling on so many levels.

PS - Why is that when a defensive player grounds the ball in goal and then does the equivalent of a double movement it’s just a drop out but not a penalty?

There were a lot of poor calls in the match, with both sides benefiting/suffering.
Again I ask: have two refs improved accuracy?
Have video refs made the sport better?

That Burgess crusher penalty was laughable - Klein obviously had his match payment on the Bunnies because that was a dead set joke of a call.

Did anyone see the Dogs game ? their hooker did a double movement and put the ball on the line and claimed a try right in front of the ref - the ref ignored him and ruled a handover for him being tackled short of the line. The player pleaded with him and even showed him the ball which was quite bloody obviously on the line. Ref too stupid to realise it either has to be a try or a penalty. Continues to ignore irrefutable evidence and sticks with call of handover. Fast forward one game and we have a ref who manufactures a double movement for a tackle that is effected so ball ends up short of line without player claiming a try. WTF !!!! and they wonder why fans get disillusioned with the standard and consistency of the officiating in this game.

Yes and yes!
Even the commentators made a joke about the hooker lucky not to have been penalised.
No consistency.
No wonder the Panther fans spent half the game boohing.

Thumbs up to the Tigers for taking their home game to the bush (Tamworth). Should be more of it as we all know.
In saying that I’m hoping for a Tits win, just to see them go into Round 8 as the best performing Qld team, regardless if the Donkeys get up tonight. What odds would you have got at the start of the year for that result!?

(and no, I’m not including the pseudo scum in that market.)

If the NRL were smart, they should have made part of the criteria for the large payment clubs receive to take one game to a country area each season. This game would generally be against an out of town team that traditionally has low support. During this week the home team would commit to coaching clinics, community work and code building activities. It would go a long way to getting the game going again in the bush and sure up the code's future as well as generating positive press.
Cowboys - Cairns/Mackay
Broncos - Gladstone/Toowoomba
Titans - Sunshine Coast/Ipswich
Newcastle - Port Mac
Manly - Coffs
Easts - Gosford
Souths - Gosford/Wagga Wagga
Wests - Tamworth
Cronulla - Dubbo
St George - Nowra
Penrith - Bathurst
Melbourne - Ballarat
Canberra - Albury/Wodonga
NZ - South Island
Canberra - Bowral
Bulldogs - Mildura/Wentworth

Did you know that not once since their first ever game against Manly in 1988 have the Broncos played a home game outside of Brisbane? Other than when they were the designated home team in Finals when all games were played at the SFS during the 1990s, every single one of their NSWRL-ARL-SL-NRL home games have been played at either Lang Park / Suncorp or ANZ (QEII). They have never taken one of their games to country Queensland or anywhere else.

Why doesn’t that surprise me. As @Tomay said, the NRL should make it mandatory that every team play at least one game in their regional area.

Reckon that bongos no 8 could be a Pain in the Harse to gummies by games end...
