November Targets

We are going to have almost $3 million to spend come November 1. Rough break down below 👇

Turbo + Jurbo reduced contracts saving roughly $850k.
Croker - $300k
Brown - $200-250k
Josh A - $500k
Garrick - $500-600k
Schuster $200k payments also end I believe

Going to be a pivotal ‘transfer window’ for the club. If we recruit poorly we could be in trouble for a very long time however if we get it right we could be real contenders for a premiership before 2030.

Let’s assume all the players that haven’t already extended at their current club are going to test the market as majority will be, who should we target & what’s the most important position to target?

Are we cutting Garrick? News to me 👀

I thought the same, then realised its not cutting him. He is allowed to talk to other clubs from nov 1 for 2027, as are manly.

The OP is just including his salary in case he goes

Yes, we are running out of years to maintain our record of a premiership every decade since the 1970s.

I would love for us to recruit to a plan/specific style of play, like the Dogs have. No point just buying anyone on the market and/or offered up by player managers.

If we are going for the panthers/dogs style of grind, we need highly aerobic forwards who can play big minutes and wrestle effectively, rather than bash and barge types like lodge and sipley.

We need to develop a style that recognises Tom is not going to be the single man match winner he used to be, so if we intend persisting with the “use our weapons” approach, we probably need another gun or two. Weekes would have fitted that bill. Would also be great to get an effective yardage winger like To’o.

We should also target a 14, like walker used to be. Need another point of attack in the middle to reduce our reliance on predictable spreads.

Won't the Turbo bros still be on their existing contracts next year? New deals (when done) to start in 2027?? Same with Garrick. If he's looking at a Perth deal wouldn't he stay here next year?
Crokes is also contracted for 2026 - are you assuming he may retire? ( although he's not old)
Schu - still paying him in 2026?

I might be wrong about all that!

But if not, more like about 900k + whatever Jazz is on - to replace 2 top 17 forwards (Aloia and Jazz) plus a back-up forward (Brown).

Nothing to sneeze at, still pretty good - providing anyone decent is available!

This entire thread is about 2027 mate. In November Garrick will be allowed to negotiate with Bears to leave for 2027 if he chooses too & we can negotiate with whoever we like from that list of off contract players.

2026 I’d say the only target would be Mooney unless someone else becomes available - slim pickings. Feels a bit early to be talking about 2027 but realistically its only about 4 months until we can start signing players for that year & id think we will try get business done early.

Mooney, Fermor and Crosby for next year please. Then we need one big scalp in 27. Haas, Tino, Koloamatagi, Izzy Katoa etc
Yep, any of those forwards for 27 would be perfect & could take us to the next level IMO. I’ve seen a bit of chat about Crosby but haven’t watched him play, stats look really good from the weekend. Would be excited if we pick him up
