NRL Drug testing a farce

Although it would result in the virtual decimation of the Australian side as an entity, I would like to see the Australian Indigenous side involved in this weekends matches.

I think they'd compete well and give this comp a good shake.
They all still desire the green and gold Moz.

Yep 100% agree @mozgrame
In fact a thread about shortening the comp ( which I think the comp is most crucial ) is something I'm thinking about but if someone beats me to it is all good, to allow more diversity of games is an asset.
But because this thread is about drugs it's probably best discussed elsewhere.
But I'm with you on that.

To be honest - and I know this is a controversial opinion - there are a couple of recreational drugs I'd like to see legalised; the booger sugar would probably be one of them (along with MDMA). Prohibition doesn't work, so why not properly control and regulate the market so people have options other than alcohol? Like I said before, humans have been finding/figuring out ways to get wasted forever - ban everything, they'll find something else you hadn't thought of.

That said, cocaine is obviously a stimulant, so you'd still have to test athletes for it in-competition, but out of competition - meh, who cares.

Mullen gets 4 years for taking something that he was hoping would get him back on the field faster. Coke users get their names in media (sometimes) and carry on.

Maybe the Greenturd is just a weirdly moralistic libertarian. Roids are a no no because of the alleged competitive advantage but coke is cool coz ****in woohoo it's Friday night and you can put what you want in your body! Party time!

Whilst I'm nearly in agreeance (generally that prohibition is not the answer), the "but out of competition - meh, who cares" may not be entirely correct...

Withdrawal Symptoms of Cocaine
Many knowledgable about cocaine’s withdrawal syndrome would advise those who’ve made the decision to quit using cocaine to seek the supervision and supportive care offered from a structured detoxification program. While acute cocaine withdrawal is rarely inherently dangerous, it can be a difficult-to-endure start to your recovery efforts. The following unpleasant withdrawal symptoms may be seen, with a few of them – depression and suicidal ideation – warranting vigilant medical care:

  • Anxiety and concentration problems. (we are having problems with playing a full 80 minutes)
  • Fatigue, increased sleep. (he was asleep out on the wing and the opposition stole the try @;))
  • Cocaine cravings, increased appetite. (the team has fitness problems, why do they look overweight, what's the training staff doing!)
  • Depression, decreased ability to feel pleasure, suicidal thoughts. (I think this one, sadly, has been evident often enough)
  • Slowed psychomotor skills. (how can they drop such an easy pass! :banghead: )
  • Involuntary motor movements. (he had a brain explosion)
  • Muscle and bone pain. (the tackle looked fairly harmless)
  • Chills. (the gap appeared but he just froze 😉)
JUST SAYIN! 🙄

I wasn't really referring to the side effects/withdrawals though - as far as testing is concerned, it's pretty much all about the performance enhancement! If it's having a negative effect on your performance, well that sounds like a personal problem to me! >:)

Funny thing is, there's plenty of legal activities/substances that can have similar negative effects - stay out on the p*ss all night before a game, stay up all night shagging the missus (the neighbour, the cat, whoever) the night before a game, even eating a huge amount of junk food before the game.

Not saying it could or has happened but in the interests of circumspection.....

wouldn't it be terrible if it evolved to a situation where 'caught' drug users were able to keep their reputation 'intact' on the proviso they 'returned the favour' at some later date, it would be terrible I tell ya, just bl$$dy terrible!

Honestly, with all the inconsistency in the NRL I've just stopped watching all games not involving Manly. All of this that has happened plus the NRL's selective treatment on certain teams and certain players has just put me off. All other games look so similar to each other anyway and the NRL isn't doing anything about it.

Having said that, I'll always watch the Sea Eagles but they are one of the few teams playing enterprising footy.

and honestly I'm in the same boat.

The really bad news is that is probably exactly how the 'owners' of the 'entertainment' want it, completely tribal, hardly anyone watching games not involving their own team, fewer witnesses to the appalling decisions and even then those witnesses don't care (or care as much) because it wasn't their team that copped it.

Pretty robust business model if you ask me.

Yeah but perhaps the taking it in the first place right through to the side effects is one big personal problem....

and good point, I recall instances (very vaguely though 😉), where players have sworn off one or all of those activities, to improve performance

so yes it's a fine line

and drum roll

the fine line is whether it is legal or not

:wait: well go figure, the fine line has been visible all along!

It works to cover up their crap but if they truly want to expand the game and increase viewership then they have to do something about it.

At work we've had focus groups where people in higher positions would listen to what their employees want from their employer. Maybe clubs could kick things off with their members and take that feedback to the NRL. This sport is slowly rotting from its core and the governing bodies in charge just aren't taking notice.

Watch the NRL rush in some policy because Greenturd doesnt know how to deal with these situations and should have planned better.

Let's be honest, it's a pretty bad look for the game, 4 people in 2 days.

I've just spent a month detoxing off antidepressants... and experienced all of these symptoms (still get some of them).

I've been to a lot of raves, with up to 50,000 people dancing on coke and ecstasy, and rarely seen the sort of crap you'd have to put up with at your local club with drunk muppets.. the point I'm making is that (in my well researched opinion) alcohol is decidedly worse for behavioral problems than the two aforementioned "illegals". All the prohibition has done is make thugs into rich men, and seen a proliferation of dodgy crap mixed with drugs to make these thugs more money..
