NRL - Salary Crap & TPA's

Will keep Manly out of it as then it appears to be based on emotion.
Fact is - The way Cronulla, Roosters, Storm , Brisbane, Eels and now the new underdog NRL Sweethearts, the Knights are able to sign player after player, yet still have all this cap space to work....it's a turnoff on this great game......after missing Pearce due to uncertainty of this INVESTIGATION ??- Manly have at least $850,000 which a few were aware of (Not the media claiming $400,000- 500,000), so with other options available to still add more quality - what about Creighton?......No way - 2 of the above teams in Roosters & Sharks who have a ridiculous rosters of Marquee players in a battle for Creighton....this crap about locations getting more money, TPA's that certain teams get extra liberty to exploit are where the NRL should investigate....Cronulla apparently still have $1 million to spend.....BS they do !!
The Knights last year were called out to be $1.5 under the cap - and that seemed fair enough....the upgrades on young Fitzgibbon, Lamb, Barnett plus the extra Roosters who would have commanded $400,000 plus each from a team needing to pay overs....this Ponga was 1 million a season...add SKW, Watson, Guerra - all on overs....then why not give Pearce another million add Moga, Lillyman, Ese'ese, Heighnington who ALL obviously got way more to go there....what are they on - $150,000 each ??
Makes me sick to see the same above teams signing every available player, until the dregs are left for the other teams to battle it out for.
Happy to cop dummy spits......damn it - even a troll - but very, very confident many feel this way.

I’d be dissapointed if you even got one of those.

****ed if I know what’s going on at present but 4 or 5 sides seem to be able to do anything they want whilst the rest languish with the dregs.

Well said, my thoughts exactly. Its taking the gloss off the game for me thats for sure

The spare money in the cap needs to be invested wisely. As long as we keep the talented youth under contract I will be happy and buy the odd marquee players.

The cap and TPAs are a total farce and they have been since News filth got their sticky fingers in the game and ensured that the Donkeys and the Drizzle got a leg up that no other club could match and now it is open slather!

Makes a mockery of our great game that you and I have followed for well over 50 years.

I don’t think I’ve ever felt so disillusioned.

Each year has got worse but 2017 is nearly the worst it’s ever been.

So very many issues, rules, refs, the cap, TPA, the attempted centralised nature of the Sydney comp ( and the total lack of help for our home ground).

It’s making it very very hard to enjoy it at present.

It's corrupt, although makes our recent past success and nearby success (seems to be a bright decade ahead) more satisfying. Clubs like ones listed have all the resources and money, yet can't reach the success (or attitude, personality) manly do

Took us quicker to rebuild after a decade of dominance than any other club would... If only they could have decades of dominance like us (and admittedly the storm) can

Yep. It's really depressing. The TPAs and our home ground stuff especially. I try to remind myself of the financial advantage we had in the seventies as a bit of a counterbalance but this just feels like everything is rigged.
Sometimes I feel like I only support the game out of a Manly addiction I just can't kick.

Let’s remember Super League wanted a 12 team comp.........it might just be happening by stealth!

Take heart guys , there are still plenty of positives . some of the best emerging juniors since the Kosef , Beaver , Gartner era. Finally it seems a very proactive and smart C E O operator in Gorman . A current and relatively young N R L squad that still seems to have plenty of improvement to show and develop . Always a great history and heritage to reflect on and to maintain . Not always easy to take the good with the bad and as this year exemplified but supporting the mighty Sea Eagles makes it so much easier .

Don’t worry I’ll still be here in 2018, even if we finish 15th ( which I don’t think we will).

But doesn’t mean I’m not as frustrated as all hell!

Probably could have easily had Moylan if the Panthers did not impose that 250 grand transfer fee [ not even sure if that was legit.] Pointless paying overs for Pearce [ also confused as to what difficulties the N R L supposedly presented there ] The hopeful bright future for the club definitely depends primarily on retaining and developing the promising juniors and the club and Barrett does not want to jeopardize that.

Wow! Just read on Foxsports that King Arthur is claiming "We have signed Hayne for 500k, And they still have money for a top line prop. Appare they have two spots left in their roster. So, that's Moses on $800k, Hayne 500k, Kane Evans on f&@@ knows how much, and two spots left in their roster for significant signings. Semi must have been earning double what DCE is on.

Mark I see us probably finishing just outside the eight, this year I think we had a more competitive and overall balanced team, mix of old and young talent. We got the run of winning those tight matches and no one expected us to be as competitive as we were this year.

2018 I see us having a year like the raiders did this year, we are going to have a more frustrating year, other teams look like they have got stronger while we have stayed the same.

I think we will miss the 8 next year , land a few big signings next off season, our young kids will have another season done and start to really launch a serious challenge for the title from 2019-2021.

Policing of the salary cap needs to be independent of the NRL authority.

While salary cap auditors are "NRL salary cap auditors" there will be no level playing ground.

Any sporting body who wants to distance itself from corruption will implement an independent auditing body with publicly published findings. Nothing less is good enough,

Have all those named teams gone forward.

Brisbane got Bird but lost quite a lot of players. I think they have gone backwards.

Melbourne Backwards.

Roosters got Cronk but he doesn't have Smith and Slater anymore. Does anyone expect him to be as good?

Maybe Parra, Maybe Cronulla.

What about the other ten clubs? Have we done worse than them?

We might not win or even make the eight next year, but surely we are still in with a chance of making the finals..

I'd be stunned if Manly miss the eight.

Also Jake, Tom, DCE, Walks, and Taupau are real stars and certainly not dregs. In fact they are 5 of the best players out there that any team would be happy to have.

The 'tier' (for want of a better word) of players below that are full of seasoned performers of say Jorge and Uate or players improving, say Siro (who people smarter than you potatoes say he's improving as a second rower all the time) and a whole host up young, hungry up and comers all the better for another year (AFB, Perret, etc.)

The roster isn't perfect but I (for one it seems) believe we will have a good team next year and am looking forward to the season.

As for no players wanting to come here; of the two we seemed to have chased (if the Thompson one is correct, nothing official from Manly, him, or his manager):

-Thompson we stopped when Pearce was on the market, and
-Pearce (whom I think it was reported he wanted to come here) the nrl hq screwed us over coupled with the dump truck full of money given to him as well as they keys to Newcastle.

We may not have the tpa's or cash of some other clubs but we certainly got close to getting the highest profile player on the market in this off season - not too bad!

I think it'll be a good year.

As long as we have TPAs and we need too there should be No cap. The rich teams already spend whatever they like so there is no real advantage to them.

If the cap is 9.2 and a team spends 9.8 they get penalised when the team next door spends 11 and thats cool.

What type of madness is this. The TPA system is not administered correctly , everyone knows this. I would like to see someone challenge the NRL legally on there policing of the system

If maloney was manly bound and dropped the clunker there would have been a royal commission

Until the fans genuinely revolt , this type of manipulation will only get worse. Ch 9 , fox and todd Greenberg are the true coalition

The only plus here, as already alluded to by @manly al , is the Sharks were never in that select group of clubs until Gorman joined them. Now he's joined us...

Will keep Manly out of it as then it appears to be based on emotion.

Ponga was $750k; but yes, get your point.
