NRL seeks breach explanation

SEVERAL clubs have been issued with "please explain" edicts by the NRL over salary cap breaches in 2006, league chief executive David Gallop revealed last night.

But Gold Coast Titans has escaped any complications over model Chloe Maxwell's job at Sea FM, with cap auditor Ian Schubert ruling there was no connection between her employment and her fiance, dual international Mat Rogers.

Gallop said it was possible "a few" clubs would be fined for exceeding the cap, but none of the alleged offences were in the realm of those commited by New Zealand Warriors or the Bulldogs during the past five years.

"We're at the stage where clubs have been given an opportunity to answer queries," Gallop said.

"We expect there will be some relatively minor breaches and those will be finalised, possibly, at the board meeting at the end of this month."

Asked the number of clubs involved, Gallop said: "A few. It's too early to say whether this will lead to breaches."

Maxwell's job with a club sponsor came to light when Rogers proposed to her on air before a pre-season match against Penrith on March 2.

"Having looked into it, we are perfectly satisfied that Chloe's job with the radio station is unrelated to Mat's position at the Titans," Gallop said.

"We consider that matter closed."
