NRL vs AFL

In so many ways the AFL does it better than the NRL and I've just run into one of them.
We have family in Melbourne so each year we like to coordinate a visit with the Manly-Storm game.
This year it falls on the July 28 weekend but is the first of the unscheduled rounds. So how to plan the trip? We might need to be there for Thursday night or we might need to be there Sunday arvo or it could be anything in between. We like to get full days in so we've decided to fly down on Thursday morning and back Sunday lunchtime and have to hope To hell we're not playing on the Sunday. We need to book flights and accommodation and arrange people to work for us so we cannot be flexible. So we may have a whole weekend planned in Melbourne around a game they we may not get to see!

By contrast there's the AFL. Yesterday I checked to see if the Swans were playing while we're down Yep. Friday night against Hawthorn MCG. Would love to go but can't book because WE MIGHT BE PLAYING Friday night!

Absolutely ridiculous. If the AFL can schedule games, why the hell cant the NRL?

We were planning on going to the Warriors game too because another family member has recently moved over there, but the same problem exists and we're not going to risk it happening twice.

Insanity.

And why don't the last 6 rounds have the schedule set? Who is playing who and where is set, but when the games will be played aren't.

Its because Channel Nein want to be able to pick and choose which games they want on the Thursday and Friday nights and Sunday afternoons. Ch.9 are the ones who dictate the damn draw.

@Budgewoi Eagle being a game in Melbourne I would say that it'll be most likely a Saturday night, but don't discount Sunday arvo. I wouldn't be putting money on Thursday or Friday. And I'd bet that at least one of those nights has already been penciled in as a Broncos game.

Strongly considering a Swans or even Tahs membership over the NRL this season.

Regret not doing it last year with the terrible scheduling.

AFL, hands down, win on every front.

Fan engagement, scheduling, promotion, juniors support, broadcasting, Grand Final day, the list goes on.

Very very well run, as opposed to the NRL which is very very poorly run.

Imagine the frustration I went through organising MWTS trips when scheduling was only known a month in advance.

The NRL is run by a bunch of self centred , old school clowns, the AFL just employ the best people they can fine......compare if you will Gil McLaughlin to Todd Greenburg!!

BUT, League is still my game so I'll just have to deal with it I guess.

Thanks HV8. Good thinking. Might change accommodation to Fri Sat Sun nights.

Nigh on impossible, and so much extra work, I ised to have to get commitments from people based on days they could go, so offer was a Friday or Monday they couldn't go, but could go if it was a Saturday / Sunday.

NZ is always either Saturday arvo but most likely Sunday 2pm, so I'd have to take them over Friday and back Monday to cater for every option, we played a couple of Easter games over there so that worked really well, and that's when I got 60-80 to go, a normal weekend sometimes 15 because they couldn't get the days off.

I had a lot of fun but the financial rewards didn't exactly equal the volume of work done at times.

I so wish I'd been on one of your trips! And I'm
Sure everyone who went really appreciated your work!

Toddles says all will be rectified next year when the NRL takes over the scheduling.

All I can see is five cats, one ball of string and expect them to knit a jumper!!
