Off Loads

Something that struck me last year and has continued this year is the number off offloads the team is starting to produce.

There were times yesterday that reminded me of one of favourite ever experinces at brookie

As an aside this is the team list - they had just come off back to back grand finals...we were a team on the rise with kids Danny Moore, Jack Elsgood, Beaver, Gartner, Solo and...even more impressive...Brett Fulton on the bench

We are coming 3rd with 35 offloads, behind the warriors and tigers who 38 and 41 respectfully..
It shows that second phase play is a good ingredient to success
It almost looks a bit like the philosophy of the Walker brothers with Ipswich jets. When defending let them run one out and have the ball for as short a time as possible. In attack lengthen your set constantly. Second phase results in extra tackles that don’t appear on the stat sheet but require just as much effort. Defense saps energy. So make the other team defend for as long as possible

I think the more important thing is that they are (mostly) controlled offloads too, not just random throw it out the back and hope someone gets onto it.

On top of that you have guys like Jake lurking around waiting for that offload too

Taupau topped the league last year in offloads, and he will most likely do it again this year.

Good point - Marty T was more selective

We have had offloads in us for a few seasons now but the difference is our players a looking and ready for it.

When Marty first joined us Api would be looking at the grandstand and no one else would be lurking at all hence so many going to ground whereas these days you have TT and Jake as well as Api all ready to pounce.
