Journey Man
On this day, the 10th of August:
* 1983 - Manly wins its second straight KB Cup Final at Leichhardt Oval. After defeating Newtown 23-8 in the 1982 Cup Final, Manly successfully defended its midweek crown with a 26-6 win over Cronulla-Sutherland. It was Bob Fulton's first ever trophy as Manly coach, and ironically the last time that we would win the full 13 per side midweek or pre-season competition.
On our way to winning the 1983 KB Cup, our results were:
Prelim Round
Manly-Warringah 5 d. Parramatta 0 (Leichhardt)
Rd.1
Manly-Warringah 78 d. Queensland Country 4 (Lang Park)
Qualifying Final
Manly-Warringah 10 d. Canterbury-Bankstown 5 (Leichhardt)
Semi Final
Manly-Warringah 23 d. Combined Brisbane 10 (Lang Park)
FINAL
Manly-Warringah 26 d. Cronulla-Sutherland 6 (Leichhardt)
Final Attendance - 15,086
And for your viewing pleasure, in the absence of the Final itself, here is the full coverage of our 23-10 win over Brisbane in the Semi-Final at the old Lang Park.
