Doesn't-matta have announced a new major sponsor.....

I was hoping that was going to be the start of the Dragons downhill run. Some of those ref calls late in the second half were out and out cheating. In saying that Will Smith and takairangi should never play first grade again.

First vs last.....freezing cold night. Can't blame fans for staying home and staying warm where they can watch it on the telly for free.

Maybe, but still no excuses, Dragons home game and leading the comp, their d1ckhead supporters still think that grand finals were created just for them.
They crucified us a few weeks ago when we got just 6000 against the Cowboys, it would have 13 v 14

My favourite of the recent era was in 2015 when Parra were up 30-6 against Nth QLD with 20mins to go and lost 36-30. The press conference with both BA and Choc sitting there stunned at what just happened, hilarious haha!!!!

On that performance Dufty is the next Billy Slater. He was the one player that kept Illawarra in the contest.
I can't stand Illawarra but I was rootin' for them tonight. I still can't believe they have had such a charmed run with injuries this season. They will flame out.
I do admire a bloke as small as Dufty showing that brawn isn't always better. He took every high kick and was dangerous every time he touched the ball.

Inside info on Adelaide's weather before the show starts....at least, Nein's telecast.

Its cold, wet and windy which will make the ground at the Adelaide Oval very slippery. But it won't be the old mud pack because the oval now uses drop in pitches.

The sad thing is that the Eels competed better than what we did against the Dragons .

Sad isn't it. They played as a team and almost won. We got thumped and the only thing of note we did was Tom Wright's piece of brilliance.

And Wright's prize for that? Gets dropped to the reserves bench.....kinda like the movie Major League isn't it.....how about a series of fines for good play?

Not surprised its not an overly big crowd in Adelaide tonight given the weather that's hanging around.

The ground is in surprisingly good, non-slippery condition considering the rain that has been around Adelaide today. Should make for a better game.

Cronk passes inside, Smith gets wrong footed, turns around straight into a Chooks player, hits the deck and gets a penalty even though he was zero chance of making a tackle.

Good defensive half from the Chooks and Storm, but Slater was right, both sides were very clunky in attack.

I hope it opens up a bit more in the second half because that is how they will get crowds to the games in places like Adelaide, lots of tries. The non rugby league crowd might not appreciate good defence dominating like we do.

Interesting fact. This is actually the Storm's 5th game in Adelaide.

They played Penrith at Hindmarsh Stadium in 2006, the Dogs at Adelaide Oval in 2010 and 2011, and the Chooks at the Oval in 2017 and now 2018.

And not once have they been the home team.

The top 5 attendances at the Adelaide Oval (and for any games played in Adelaide) for rugby league have been:

28,884 - St George vs Balmain 1991 (largest non-Finals NSWRL crowd of 1991)
27,435 - Adelaide vs Hunter, SL 1997 (Rams record attendance, also their first ever home game)
21,492 - Roosters vs Melbourne, 2017
20,246 - St George vs Canberra, 1993
18,892 - St George vs Brisbane, 1992.

I was at every one except last years, and tonight.

St George played home games in Adelaide from 1991-95 mostly because their then long time sponsor Penfolds is an Adelaide based company. The Dogs played home games against the Storm in 2010 and 2011, but with low attendance (10,350 in 2010 and 9,963 in 2011), they abandoned it and we didn't get a game again until 2017.
