Our infatuation with the Refs!

Prior to the last game when I saw the words " Checcin" printed, I groaned and put the game down as a loss.

But it didn't eventuate, which has made me think during the course of a week are we too infatuated with refs , particular refs or the reffing system as a whole.

Yeah I know, I've banged on for years about this very issue and still think that refs do try and " even up" games a bit ( not always possible though), but the system is what it is, we aren't changing anything so is it time we just accepted it for what it is?

@HappilyManly often says about our chances " the players need to take the refs out of the equation " ( or something like that) so maybe she is on to something.

Do we need to be like the Storm, " masters at taking everything to that point just before a penalty is blown"??

Do we need to just accept the penalties that come , not argue, move quickly back into the line and move on THUS potentially getting a better " rap sheet" for future games?

I'm not suggesting I've suddenly fallen in total admiration of the refs , they are still tossers, but like HM says do we need to play on the basis of just taking them
out of the picture??

I just think we need to focus on our own game
If your good enough then you can control the game to be the master of your own destiny and no one can then steal the win from you ,not even the refs

Last game was the attitude that I was talking about.

Bad call/right call Manly just adjusted to the next play. No stress about being 'wronged' and players were fully focused

If you look at Darcy's dud 'knock on' call, no drama ensued - professional attitude from Manly :wait:

My fave was when BJ lost the ball in a tackle in the second half.
He swore and berated himself but Manly packed the scrum without argument about a possible strip.

Rorters threw a forward pass from it straight away 😛

So all the Manly players went to BJ as if to say 'see, your error is negated and we get 6 tackles from a great position'

Focus on what you can control and you will be happy

Exactly, but I still think they are egotistical wankers!!

I think 14-4 penalty count against the Panthers says it all.

Also, we get penalties while having the ball on the 1st tackle, where you will see Melbourne gets their penalties after the 5th tackle. Big difference there alone between the 2 most penalised teams in the comp.

Exactly, so why feed their egos by reacting. :banghead:
Egos need to feel the pain of their subjects 😛
They'll move on to the next 'victim' quickly @

Spud said the same thing about the Chief. ' I always got up, so he didn't feel like he got one over me'

I coached jnrs at baseball where every play was influenced by judgement Calls.
If we won I would make a point of having the kids remember a play where the ump got it clearly wrong and reinforce how it did not effect us.
By the end of the season they went out there to beat the other team and the refs each game.

That's fine but there's one essential difference between us and the Storm. Greenturd wants us to fail and the Storm to succeed.

100%
The 2008 HF Manly murder them yet got the crap calls...teams with confidence and that determined competitive nature will in fact, use the bad calls to fire up more and won the ball back with contact.
Get on with game boys!!

We are in a society now where we have access to voice our opinions and mainly do so at the expense of others. There is more interest in negative news/information than positive. Society today commonly look for excuses also.

Refs have made mistakes for years, and will continue to do so. What can be tidied up is the video ref, and how they are utilised.

What we don't see so much of in the papers, on forums or in coaches press conferences are - we completed 65% today, i thought our dummy half and our centres at times took wrong options at vital times where we had scoring opportunities, and we missed 35+ tackles. Our kicking game did not allow us to get into good field positions, and when we did, our defence let them back up the field with poor line movement or penalties. Those poor reads and missed tackles let in 5 tries today.

Instead society/coaches scrutinises the refs performance to find reasons why the team performed liked they did. It's called passing the buck.

Does the under 16's Seven Hills Netball team do this when they lose each game? Surely there are contentious calls throughout these games also.

Oh, but they don't have the technology! Ok so let's blame the refs for all our losses.
