Re: Panthers V Sea Eagles Teams, News Stats & Chat

They will test our compression defense. We really need to shut them down early. Look for Bell and Williams to be targetted out wide.

If we can put 2 or 3 tries on them early they will throw the towel in, if its close towards the end they will keep coming and are a real danger.

Re: Panthers V Sea Eagles Teams, News Stats & Chat

2 things will make me happy and it's not even about winning the MP:

1- a win of course
2- no tries leaked at the end of each half.  That's what's irked me the most this whole season i think

Re: Panthers V Sea Eagles Teams, News Stats & Chat

Manly coach Des Hasler is optimistic centre Jamie Lyon will return from a knee injury, a handy replacement for the suspended Steve Matai. Lyon trained with his teammates for the first time yesterday and will be put through tackling drills today. Hasler said Lyon would play five-eighth if he is passed fit, with either Steve Menzies or Shane Neumann the options for centre against the Panthers.

"Jamie looks terrific," Hasler said. "He's very optimistic about playing and I expect him to."

Penrith are expected to be as per program. "Everyone's right to go, I think," coach Matt Elliott said. "The only question is Luke Priddis [shoulder], but I think he's going to be fine."

Re: Panthers V Sea Eagles Teams, News Stats & Chat

Someone please keep Nuemann away. Panthers are the team that carved him up before.

Re: Panthers V Sea Eagles Teams, News Stats & Chat

Weather might make it hard to rack up a big score. That might favour the Storm who are playing the tackle shy Bunnies.

Re: Panthers V Sea Eagles Teams, News Stats & Chat

CIG, if he does play we jsut need him on the opposite side of orford who hung him out to dry in that panthers game right in front of us. Nueman called him wider on two seperate occasions and got waved away on the first and yelled at on the second. Both resulted in tries.

I was extremely pissed off with orford for that its something i would expect from Mason

Panthers can reduce these Manly men to pussycats

Greg Prichard | September 6, 2008
Penrith v Manly
http://www.leaguehq.com.au/news/news/panthers-can-stun-manly/2008/09/05/1220121528295.html

Tonight, CUA Stadium, 5.30pm
What the Panthers say:

They know they have let themselves down with their overall form this season. "There were a few crucial games where we just didn't turn up," said captain Petero Civoniceva. Now, he says, the Panthers have got to aim to finish on a strong note.
What the Eagles say:

Coach Des Hasler abhors the suggestion his side will be aiming to win by a big margin to make it as hard as possible for Melbourne to overtake them. "We don't care about the maths. We're aiming to win this game to guarantee a top-two finish, so that if we win in the first week of the finals we'll be guaranteed to get the second week off. Penrith have got a number of long-serving players who will be making their last appearance for the club, so there will be a lot of emotion behind them. And CUA Stadium is a hard ground to win at. We haven't done too well there recently, so we can't assume anything."

What Prichard says:
Hasler isn't making it up when he says the Sea Eagles have trouble winning at Penrith. They have lost six of their past seven games on the Panthers' turf. So they really do have to be careful and not come in short on intensity. But, if they do aim up, they should win. They have a huge amount to play for, while the Panthers can no longer make the finals after losing to the Warriors last weekend. Manly have got to believe the Panthers will rev up to try to finish their season the right way, just in case they do.

For Penrith to win:
They have got to give a damn, for a start. It is anyone's guess how they will react to their season being over, since during the 25 rounds in which it was alive they still managed to put in a few too many shabby performances, but Rhys Wesser, Luke Rooney, Shane Rodney, Tony Puletua and Luke Priddis will be making their farewells. That should be motivation enough for the team to lift, in a bid to send them out the right way. The Panthers have got to try to play off that emotion.

For the Eagles to win:
The rules are pretty simple. They have got to ignore the fact Penrith are out of the race for the finals and treat them as a very dangerous side, which they are, at their best. They have got to try to jam down hard on them and dominate from the start, because the longer the Panthers are in this game the more they will believe they can win.

The X-factor:
The attitude of the Panthers. If they are up for the game, they can be competitive. If they have mentally racked the cue on the season, they could cop a belting.
What the bookies say:

They are taking no chances with Manly, who are $1.16 favourites with Sportsbook.com.au. The Panthers are $5.35. The points start is 14.5.
The late mail:

The word yesterday was Hasler would ease Jamie Lyon into his comeback off the bench, with one of the interchange players making way. That would most likely result in Shane Neumann starting at centre, for the suspended Steve Matai.

Re: Panthers V Sea Eagles Teams, News Stats & Chat

Forecast for Saturday
Rain, moderate to heavy at times, easing late in the day. Fresh southwest to southerly winds, strong to possibly gale force along the coast, easing this evening. Dangerous surf conditions.

Precis: Rain and wind easing later.

if it were to rain as much as it did in last nights chooks v Roosters game then it may be a concern, but the above weather report makes it sound promising altough it will keep the crowd down

Re: Panthers V Sea Eagles Teams, News Stats & Chat

Elliot is gone.

That maybe enough to fire them up or with any luck they are thinking there is no coach to impress.

The rain will reduce our chance of racking up a big score but also means the riff can throw the ball around our defence so we should win. Unfortunatly i dont see us winning by more than 12

Re: Panthers V Sea Eagles Teams, News Stats & Chat

If we do miss out on MP and likely 7th being the Raiders, that wouldn't be all bad I guess

Re: Panthers V Sea Eagles Teams, News Stats & Chat

ive got no problems playing the faiders. We will be at home and have the wood on them.

Re: Panthers V Sea Eagles Teams, News Stats & Chat

No problems playing the Raiders, but if they beat the Dogs by 17 or more, and that is more than likely we will be playing the Dragons if we finish 2nd. I am lot less comfortable playing the Dragons.

Re: Panthers V Sea Eagles Teams, News Stats & Chat

I don't think there'll be a heap of points scored tonight...too wet and heavy on the track.  Although being wrong won't bother me either!

Re: Panthers V Sea Eagles Teams, News Stats & Chat

The hope for points being scored goes back to the game where the rif got flogged by Canberra.
That was cold & the panfers didn't want to be there. Hopefully the rain makes them feel the same way.

Re: Panthers V Sea Eagles Teams, News Stats & Chat

just mentioned on 2gb that Luke Lewis is in doubt for this arvo's game

Re: Panthers V Sea Eagles Teams, News Stats & Chat

If Lyon does start off the bench, I'd think Menzies would start in the centres, Glenn Stewart at five-eighth and Cuthbo at lock, or something along those lines. And then just shift everyone back when Lyon comes on.

Pity I won't see the game, as I'm off to Europe in a few hours for a 4 week holiday. I think I get back just in time for the Grand Final, which is a plus, but I'm getting someone to tape the games in between so I can watch them (hopefully unspoilered :p) when I get back.

Re: Panthers V Sea Eagles Teams, News Stats & Chat

7 minutes in and I'm not entirely confident.

We've had a few chances, and have spilled the ball or kicked poorly.

And now Tony Puletua scores. Bad signs all over the field. We need to get our sh*t together very soon otherwise we can forget about the minor premiership and start focusing on simply winning the bloody match.
