PAPUA NEW GUINEA HUNTERS WIN

Bearfax

Grizzly old fart
In what is described as an historic win, the PNG Hunters have won a last minute victory to take out the Queensland Cup, before a record crowd in excess of 11,000. In only their third season in the competition, they trailed after only 7 minutes by 10-0 in the Queensland Cup Grand Final today, but climbed off the floor and won in the last minute by 12-10. This is a major result for the Half Island state whose aspirations are to eventually get a side into the NRL. Well done PNG. This will go a long way to assist in the further development of the game in that Rugby League mad country. Hopefully this will inspire Fiji to finally join the NSW Cup next year, something that's been on the burner for several years

Congrats to the Hunters.

A paddling for the genius who does the scheduling with this match and the International games.

Oh ****, I’d forgotten ****ing DST comes in doesn’t it!!

It’s such a pain in the arse when we are an hour behind.

Get with the plan Queensland.
I'll go the other way and say we should get rid of it.
It was fun at the same time as fondue sets.
Nonetheless great win.
I listened on ABC wireless but couldn't believe they said 8m people live in the nation of our true friends.
Go Hunters.

Who did they beat? Missed it all.

I hope it is on free to air,I am going to be working Sunday arvo and have never seen the Hunters play before.Hoping to see some of the best that PNG has to offer, could be good exposure for some of their players for the NRL too if they put in a good showing.Go PNG....Hopefully a loss for the Storm reserve grade side is a good omen for their firsts.....(to lose)

Nine have all 3 grades on FTA

Fox has NYC and Intrust live, then a delayed GF

I watched about half of this game and while the Hunters are very entertaining and flamboyant , this also does come occasionally with some inevitable erratic play . They must have done well to eventually get the win as the Sunshine Coast side looked a quite big , capable and well drilled , Storm like team and initially had a clear advantage but apparently the Hunter"s enthusiasm and flair must have got them home . Great addition to the Queensland cup format and competition but i think it will be quite some time before the P N G Hunters can be seriously considered for any N R L. participation . Again they are great footy entertainment value though .

Just having a look at some info on them, there are a couple of guys to watch out for.Nixon Putt and Moses Meninga look to be hard working backrowers in the Buhrer type mold(22/24 yrs old),not big guys but big motors in attack and defense.Ase and Watson Boas the halves have developed a good combination,Ase at 5/8 is more experienced and does more of the kicking/organizing and Watson at 7 is the younger at 22yrs old and has a bit more of a dart and can break a tackle.A few big guys in the forwards like Wellington Albert who played with the Panthers but might be a bit lazier in defense.Overall they look a little lighter than an NRL side and might get overwhelmed by the Panthers but they obviously play with passion and you would think they would be primed for the day.

I'm in Fiji at the moment and all the talk up here is Union. League seems like a foreign language. I went to the NRC game in Suva on Sat and it was a great game and Fiji are currently leading the comp, also watched the "classic Wallabies" play the Fiji Legends, and saw the ex wallabies run a coaching clinic. It's all they talk about.
I'm sure they will play for pay but the big deal is sponsorship and unless the NRL cover costs I can't see it happening.

That said there is so much talent over hear it's ridiculous.
Bula.

If they're like buhrer we should sign them, then malign them as whipping boys for a few years before flogging them to the knights, then lament them going to the knights because what a terrible decision to cut them.

We already have 2 Buhrer clones who may never see the light of NRL,Josh and Jesse Martin have been arguably 2 of our best in the U20's this year.Josh is a local lad too.
