People are getting confused and think the Manly club is being attacked, but if there was an inclusion round I bet every club would have issues with some players not wanting to play. The polynesians seem to be very religious and we should respect their right to boycott as long as they don't vilify minority groups publicly. These days there is a healthy majority of people who support these minority groups but 20 years ago it was totally different.

I as a person with a disability am still discriminated against and it's not intentional, I get that, 40 years ago when I broke my neck and ended up a quadriplegic things were very much an upward battle. With time and education this is not the case anymore.

I suppose what I'm saying is don't be too judgmental unless you've walked in their shoes.

I just voted , Storm in a Teacup !!

Hate losing the 2 points and it probably kills our season , agree it’s a giant ****up BUT suggesting we cast the 7 ( 10 ) aside is not just a bad idea it’s ****ing stupid 101.

In a week or two it won’t even be discussed on the media.
Hope you're right Mark, lots of dome and gloom merchants on here suggesting Manly are about to implode. I'm with you though, seems to be a new NRL stuff up or scandal every week to take peoples interest away. Think it'll evaporate in a couple of weeks.

We do that and we are just going to end up with mostly white players, 50% of the players in the NRL are Poly heritage and the large majority would probably hold similar views to our 7.
True it is a no win situation for the club when it comes to loosing quality players, needs to be caveats in their contracts when signing players and if that means people without religious beliefs being signed the club is putting the club’s future first and foremost.

When a player or an employee has a problem they must come to the table with a solution and then things can be worked through, withdrawing their services is extremely poor. It’s a behavioural standard that no club or business can survive on.

Oh it will be. It will be discussed at every manly game for the remainder of the season. Every commentator will mention jerseygate/rainbowgate/rainbowsparkles whatever they end up coining it and it won't go away.
Of course the players will have it marked against them for the rest of their playing careers

It's 100% bad PR and I personally believe the blame lays on those players. I find their response abhorrent

If as reported players are going to stand down because of the jersey or try to alter this in anyway, I honestly don't care who they are or how talented they are, as far as I'm concerned they can stay stood down for the remainder of their contracts.
I have quite a few devout Mormon friends through my time working for a salt lake business I can tell you that none of them would care about the pride jersey lots of them helped fight for a pride movement at work.

If Salt Lake City can have a massive pride celebration that closes much of the city down some remote LDS can handle wearing a jersey with some rainbows on it
Go back to Salt Lake City - Idiot

‘We’ve talked about it’: Robinson says Roosters would wear pride jersey

Roosters coach Trent Robinson has delivered an emotional response to Manly’s inclusivity jersey furore, insisting his club would have no problems wearing a similar design and claiming there would be an uproar if an NRL player decided not to wear an Indigenous-themed jersey.

Three-time premiership-winning coach Robinson spoke candidly on the issue for several minutes before his side’s clash against a depleted Sea Eagles at 4

Seven Manly players have withdrawn from the game on religious and cultural grounds after claiming they weren’t consulted over the club’s decision to wear a jersey with rainbow colours replacing the usual white trimming.

The Roosters and Sea Eagles are locked in a battle for the top eight. The match will have huge ramifications for both sides’ seasons, but has been lost in the debate over the Manly players standing down.

“It’s unfortunate in 2022 we’re still having this conversation,” Robinson said. “I think it’s great what the owners of Manly have decided to do. It’s unfortunate it’s panned out this way.

“Everyone is equal. Race, gender, sexual preference - everyone is equal. People make their choice and let’s not discriminate against those people for doing that.

“In the youth gay community [suicide is] five times what normal society is. That’s because they don’t feel included. For us in 2022, to not be inclusive and not say it’s OK to be who you are, is unacceptable.

“If someone said they weren’t going to wear the Indigenous jersey, there would be an outcry. Forty years ago, that wouldn’t have been the case. Eighty years ago, we wouldn’t have had Women In League Round. We’ve moved on those fronts, and we haven’t moved on this. We need to move towards it at some point.”

Just a day after Australian Rugby League Commission chairman Peter V’landys said the NRL would consider a pride round, Robinson said his club would have no issue wearing a jersey which supported diversity and inclusion.

Robinson praised Manly counterpart Des Hasler and captain Daly Cherry-Evans for their handling of a press conference on Tuesday, and confirmed his club would support a pride jumper.

“Definitely,” Robinson said. “That’s my personal view. We’ve talked with our players about it. We’ve got a job to do and play a Roosters style of footy and dominate tomorrow night, but whether we like it or not we have things on jerseys we represent.

“That’s a decision for the club and the game to make, but my personal opinion is about equality. I want people to feel like they’re cared for, loved and have a place no matter their sexual preference in the world.”

Manly stars Jason Saab, Christian Tuipulotu, Josh Schuster, Haumole Olakau’atu, Josh Aloiai, Tolutau Koula and Toafofoa Sipley will all watch the match against the Roosters from the grandstand.

The fixture will also be played for the Gotcha 4 Life Cup, honouring media personality Gus Worland’s work in promoting mental health.

Yeah I’m not in the doom and gloom camp to be honest , it’s a massive ****up but we’ll move on from it .

It's clear to see the club either intentionally or unintentionally disrespected our Polynesian players by not consulting with them with what's going on. Very embarrassing situation for all involved.

So what is the end game. Well maybe the Polynesian community have to look at how they view such issue's. Especially for their people that may have issue's with their preferences. One can assume that if a Polynesian person knows that they won't be accepted self harm could be a huge issue.

What else is Robinson going to say !
Easy to make the Roosters look good now by supporting the jersey when they are going to take 2 competition points for a PR stuff up.
No mention of the 2 other NRL Clubs that declined the offer because they knew of the ramifications on cultural grounds!
But not the Roosters !!
I seriously hope everyone boycotts the game tomorrow night to show support for the 7 Manly players who have stood down.
