Rate 2016 1st round team v 2017 Saturday (roosters) trial team

Apart from the backrow last year, I actually think 2016 was a better looking side. Personally, I don't think we lacked quality on paper last year, they just didn't perform. I put it down to coaching and injuries.

I think we have too much garbage hanging around the joint this year. Winterstein, Wright, Uate, Green, Lawrence, and Kennedy. I know lot's of us like BJ but I think he is over the hill and i've never been fussed on Blake Green. The others are genuine reserve graders.

I think youth and speed have more upside than experience. These young players are so cocky these days and can handle the pressure.

(young and fast backline for the next 5 years)
Tom T
Taufua
Walker
Kelly
Schuster

Hastings
DCE

(young and aggressive pack)
AFB
Koroisau
Lussick
Taupau
Sironen
Jake T

(big bench with Brown to cover injury in backs, 9, and backrow)
Perrett
Lane
Myles
Brown
I was ready to dismiss your post when I began reading it. But by the end and looking at that team you've thrown out, I have to say, not too bad. Not to bad at all Snake.

Pretty much this. Throw in Winterstein Brown and Kennedy. You have a proper average side there. No idea why we forced Buhrer out for these? Anyway. Good luck Trent. Your going to need it if you pick that side in Round 1. Wonder what his plans on defending the 5th tackle on our line will be? We all know what teams will be doing.
Winterstein, who I actually like, and Kennedy, somewhat decent backup, are not going to be in the side however brown is on edge, personally can't see Baz picking him as his coaching career is now on the line more so than last year. I expect Baz's 'personal preferences' of the panthers he brought over to be a thing of the past as season 2017 begins

So much for Medicare then, here's me thinking hospitals were free, don't tell me a fracture shoulder in four places is deemed as elective surgery.

We have top private cover so hospital stay didn't cost us but surgeon, assist surgeon etc charged like a wounded bull.

There was nothing wrong with our Rd 1 team last year. Plenty wrong with how we played. Will be nothing wrong with our Rd 1 team this year. How far has our coach progressed in 12 months is the question. We will improve. Time to get excited.

There is no way on Earth the team this weekend is the team for round 1. Not a chance.

We should wait to see the team announced in 2 weeks before we all wet ourselves.

Round 1 in 2016 team was a group of good individuals playing out of position, with jumbled formations and played like strangers....you could tell with dominant field position early in the Dogs red zone, there was no serious threat with timing and structures creating zero opportunities.
Having Green to simply give guidance and help shape the left side and Sironen adding ball skills on that right edge, the attack will automatically be far better....and the little I have seen of Walker, looking like a deadly weapon, where he can play his best and concentrate on simply running the footy.
Tom T fresh and without injury, will be as dangerous as ANY player in the NRL.
Maybe just a Woods and Bird from being serious contenders, but I maintain this side can sneak a top 8 spot and we know in finals, anything is possible.
Also feel Hastings, Lussick and Kelly will change the look of the 2017 side in a big way, compared to the trial team.

If we field that team in first round we will get our Rses..Kicked ...Winterstein,Brown,Walker,kennedy ...GOD HELP US...!!!

Both teams blow. Parra will flog us like the Dogscum did last year.
Where does that say in your crystal ball mickqld inlighten us please, and while your at it how many games were going to win and last of all give us the winning lotto numbers thanks.

One small thing that's different from 2016 to 2017, is this time last year we were predicted to be top 4 by all except 1 journo, no doubting that affected the players head space.

In 2017 we are predicted to run 14th so it's a complete opposite to last year, low expectations plus a bunch of players trying to establish themselves either first off or coming back after failures elsewhere.

This new team, full of journeymen , hasbeens , and once next big things really have something to prove.

And remember there's no I in team, this is exactly what Bellamy has done for years , created great teams from mostly Nevilles, I'm not sure if Barrett is even 25% of Bellamy but we are about to find out.

You can thank him, but whatever you do don't thank him in advance....(there out there watching!:sweating:)

The best test is to create a combined side. Here's mine
1. Tom t
2. Tafua
3. Lyon
4. Walker
5. Uate, Kelly, schuster, the red head
6. Green
7. DCE
8. lussick
9. Api or Hastings
10. Lawrence
11. Myles
12. Sironen
13. Jake t
Bench
14. Brown
15. AFB
16. Vave
15. Tapau

That side is top 4 for mine. That bench would blow teams away. Myles and Jake doing the hard stuff enabling sironen to do his thing. Lussick and Lawrence to rip and tear from the start. Green to set tom, Jamie and walker alight. Too bad it will never happen.
So put our biggest metre getter by a country mile (Tapau) on the bench? To me that is a waste. Sure he would be impactful when he came on, but our starting pack is soft without him.

Think he's more effective against tiring defense. Bit wasted in the early exchanges.
The early exchanges is what is called the softening up period where the pack that dominates lays the platform for their team to take control . We are down on big men like Lussick and Parrett so Kapow is needed to level things up

Gee thanks, have only been watching and playing league for 40 odd years, but thanks for the insight. I had Lussick in my hypothetical team with Lawrence, who ****s on perret parrett whatever his name is. So there's that. I also had Myles, sironen and jake in the hypotehetical starting pack, so hardly underweight.
I was referring to the Saturday trial team .

Except centre and wing. And possibly Backrow depending on how the "new buys with potential" actually stack up. Everyone is talking sironen up like he is the second coming of Christ, but I'm not buying in until he shows something on the field. Same for perret and lane.
Maybe not too good of a change in these positions compared to the best available side for us in 2016, however the actual centres were taken by Lyon, who was a little quiet, and Williame/Brown due to Matai's injury. Wing likewise as snake was missing in the fullback position for most the season, Trbo had to move there meaning wing was usually occupied by Matt wright

Last years backline (majority of season)

1. Trbo
2. Taufua
3. Lyon
4. Lewis Brown/Williame
5. Matt Wright
6. Walker
7. Dce

This years likely backline (hopefully for majority of season.

1. Trbo
2. Taufua
3. Walker
4. Kelly
5. Uate
6. Green
7. Dce
