This is the first 17 tooves has announced for the trial against the chooks. I think we can get a very good idea of the round 1 squad based on it.

Obviously fully fit Lawrence goes in for Mason and Buhrer for Symonds or Lui. Mason and Symonds or Lui would then make up a bench spot, so that leaves 2 left.
JSL will almost definitely get one, surely that last spot should go to Hodges or Burgess, having another front rower or hooker would be better than having 3 back rowers on the bench.
Also interesting to see Blair in for the injured Matai in centre. I can't imagine he would be a permanent centre option if Matai got injured, but I really don't know.

The combination of Lyon and Hiku could be interesting.

Starling to start, held his own in his first year.good motor good defense will only get better with age.hopefully a cornerstone for the next decade

Need both weight and agility, can't see vave being in the 17 at the moment.where has he been?,not selected for the roosters trial either

Turbojet will get a start before Vave does, surely.
It's exciting to see Lui being considered a lock this season, as many people have pointed out he played his best games in the back row.
I know a lot of people are concerned about Starling but props very rarely dominate too early in their careers, they don't normally bust onto the scene like backs can.
I'm hopefully he can take plenty of strides forward, he just needs more aggression and hopefully he's put on strength over the past few months too. Mason should help him plenty.
