Regardless of the coach....

Not interested in the coach at the moment and not interested in arguing that point, but if you could keep all the players you wanted and offload all those similarly......,who would be in your side if you could not recruit anyone?(I mean who has impressed you this year....)

Back ups in brackets...
It is inexperienced but worst case scenario would have a little cash left over to bring in some players...(not a lot) but Sorenson in the second row from Sharks,Reuben a speedster from from Townsville, anyone in the halves and a 13/8 and it is a squad that at least could compete?Lets be realistic,we don't have money to bring in elite players and after a poor season it would be hard to attract them...Would love to have Sirro and Suli but the injuries to Sirro and Suli was badly exposed on the weekend(maybe better on wing)

Anyone who watched the reserve grade against Wests will see that the team suffers from the same issues as our First grade. They were up by 12 points with about 30 minutes to go then let in five consecutive tries.
I can't believe how poorly Perrett played. He must not be retained.
Tom Wright was good in patches - again. He has good pace and is dangerous, but also makes a lot of mistakes.
Funa had limited opportunities but he looks to me to be worth promotion.
Anderson is fast and agile but didn't shine.
Sippers was strong. But as I've noted before, Manly teams are full of big Polynesian-type players who are damaging when they have the ball but who can't sustain defensive. Our outside backs are just as big.In my opinion we have too many of these type of players. Give me a Fatty Vautin type, a smallish player who tackles all day. We don't have enough of them throughout our grades.

next recruitment drive all we need to do is look down there shorts, see if they have any balls, the players we have now I think if you look down there shorts , all you'll find is a Gstring..

Victor Radley from Easts is what you would like in our team. He is exactly the sort of player we don’t have.

T Wright needs a go in the centres, where he can get early ball and can just run. The kid ran for over 330m yesterday playing at 5/8. Throw Kelly in at 5/8, worth a shot then have speed to burn in the centres with Walker and T Wright.

Get rid of fat, slow lazy Suli

Anderson held a player up one on one over the try line. A massive forward with a full run up who went through the line unchecked.
Can't remember the last time Tom was even in position to hold a player up

Our roster is workable.
It's comparable with the tiges, druggos, etc.
I have no doubt Trent is doing his best.
I just fear that he is...

Agree we need a couple workman type forwards, Amone fits this role in my eyes and another exprrienced forward. Definitely an organising 5/8 and a speedy winger with safe hands although i believe T.wright and Anderson can fill this role on the wing.
Christian Welch, Cameron Murray and Luke Bateman are examples (especially the first two). I'd love to get 2, or even all three of these players. As listed in my thread a few weeks ago I'd like Manly to work toward a side such as the following over the next two off-seasons. Originally Taufua vs Siro for bench spot and Waqa Blake a target for his wing spot although but Taufua proved an important player in his return so I've backflipped on that idea. Financially it seemed to all work out in the thread 'The Manly Direction'. 5 main players in, 6 main out. A few of these players we had to throw some decent money at though so it would compromise our depth. Just an idea.
1. Tom Trbojevic
2. Jorge Taufua
3. Dylan Walker
4. Brian Kelly
5. Ken Maumalo
6. Recruit 5/8 such as Ryley Jacks or Blake Green (calm, desicive )
7. Daly Cherry Evans
8. Jake Trbojevic
9. Apisai Koroisau/Mainese Fainu (only one stays at manly)
10. Martin Taupau
11. Corey Oates
12. Joel Thompson
13. Cameron Murray (very important, massive workload)
14. Curtis Sironen
15. Kelepi Tanginoa
16. Taniela Paseka
17. Christian Welch/Luke Bateman

I just want to see Barrett compile a good 17 week in week out. Consistent teams create consistent combinations as they play more and more together. 2018 has been a tough year to achieve this due to our injury list continuing to grow. In 2019 I doubt we will have any big names in the side leading into the season due to our salary cap position. So I think we can name a strong, young team and get some results if we get a clean off field season coupled with minor injury worries and some consistency.

1 T Trbojevic
2 Taufua
3 Walker
4 Kelly
5 Anderson
6 Wright (Preferably he continues to develop his five-eight skills, if he does that he will be a permanent fixture in the team)
7 Cherry-Evans
8 Fonua-Blake
9 Koroisau (When he returns we will be a better team, his skill, speed and creativity around the ruck is the best out there, put himself in origin discussions he was going that well. Tackles as good as any and with him around the offloaded I can't wait)
10 Taupau
11 Thompson
12 Sironen (His return will be massive, the combination he had with Daly in 2017 was really strong plus he brings more offloads)
13 J Trbojevic

14 Fainu (This boy is a keeper, great young player and has already shown how good he is, great foil for Api)
15 Tanginoa (His performance against Penrith was phenomenal not only did he run for big meters he ran fast, similar to Taumalolo the way he played)
16 Gosiwski (He is a really good player, he plays like a mad man and would lift the side on any occasion)
17 Paseka

Probably a worthwhile move to try Tom Wright as a centre as things are now . Similarly , while long thinking that Kelly could be given a role at the 6 , would seem better on present indications to persevere with Walker there and continue with Kelly in the centres . Going forward , think that there is additional and sufficient cover in the outside backs with Jorge , Suli , Parker , Anderson and Fanu [ who looks much sharper this year ] and even Matt Wright . Young Metcalfe has shown good speed and ability , not sure how much more he has to develop to be at i st grade level , Cust like Hodko on present indications,, just in the depth category.. Not too sure how far young back rowers John Schuster and the youngest Turbo are from going to a higher level for Manly and can only hope if Siro is staying that he can manage a decent season relatively injury free, Status quo with the rest of the forwards and Api and Fainu to interchange for the 9 . Probably not feasible to recruit any big or high profile names for next season and on balance does still seem to be adequate ability and talent and emerging talent in the club to be at least competitive . No doubt and stands to reason ,could do with some better outcomes on the consistency and injury front and still some better team structures but can "t see any new major signings imminent ..

We haven't won a game at Brookie in any grade (eight matches) for the past three weeks.
What has happened to the Fortress since it turned into a lottery?
I have watched all of the eight matches and, apart from the shocker in first grade against Easts, we could have won all the others. We were on top at some point in each match.
There is a losing culture throughout the club, which extends to our Under 20s. Whenever a game is in the balance we fold.
Now, many people on here blame Twenty for everything connected to the club. That is far too simplistic. He is responsible for the First Grade, but what about the other grades?
There must be other more complex reasons for why this club no longer has the mental strength to withstand pressure.
Why when Melbourne is in a tight match does it win 4 out of every 5 times? And this has happened almost since they came into the comp. It is more than playing strength, it is a mental strength.
Perhaps those in the inner sanctum of the club can look back and see what culture changes occurred this season? Perhaps the rot started when the club sacked Tooves?
Whatever, I'm convinced that the solution is not as simple as selecting players in different positions.

Very sensible post. All the calls for putting player A here and player B there, and dropping player C is little more than shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic, in my opinion. The problems are much more deeply rooted and requires far greater action than simply shifting players around (or even just changing coaches). While we can argue over the true ability or value of the players, in reality we have a group that on paper is well above where it currently stands (and that's taking into account injuries).

In my opinion, some of that far greater action includes;
1. Determining our future to play out of a quality up-to-date professional venue. No more pipe dreams and dioramas... just a committed decision, whatever that may be. If they can't get it done for Brookie, so be it. Move on to the next viable solution.
2. An investment into bringing our off-field facilities and staff up to professional standards that compete with the best out there.

I can't see Manly surviving for too much longer on a shoe string budget and clinging on to past glories. The Des era was probably a bit of a perfect storm in terms of players and coaching staff coming together. I wouldn't be relying on that sort of perfect storm to happen again. Time to get up to speed, build a professional brand, and run a professional team... or simply go on hoping until we inevitably sink.
