Basically any penalty near the line, offside etc, is a professional foul these days

I agree but it is crazy. Professional foul must involve a deliberate decision to foul - hence being termed “professional”. Refs are not smart enough to understand that.

You’re telling me after 360 odd games that cooper Cronk doesn’t know how to time a tackle ? 100% he knew what he was doing- he knew he was no hope of stopping papalli one on one from there. Cooper is the ultimate professional and he did the professional thing there and got what he deserved.

It’s a big call to say he deliberately tackled him early. Just like it was a big call to say Jake deliberately took out Gagai. Both penalties in my view but enough doubt about intention not to send the player to the bin. I’d be spewing if the Cronk sin bin scenario happened to a Manly player, particularly in a GF with the scores at 8-6!
