Don’t know how many times I have to explain this. Yes, it matters what he says behind closed doors - obviously. BUT it also matters what he says in public because we THE FANS AND MEMBERS deserve to feel that our coach is invested in the club as much as we are! If he’s not then fuuck off. Furthermore, if he held the players to account in public then he is placing them under more pressure to perform. Giving them public excuses sends a poor message to the players and the fans. So yes, what he says in public IS important. Don’t forget, without us fans the club does not exist.
Well obviously what he says at press conferences has no tangible affect on the public, because fans continue to buy memberships and turn up to home games. How do you know the coach isnt invested in the club?Wayne Bennett is arguably the greatest coach in league history, but he has never shown any passion at a press conference other than to blast the media or push an agenda. As for putting pressure on the players,I suppose that depends on the type of person the coach is and his relationship with the team.Bellamy can get away with it because he’s beloved by his players and he’s obviously moulded his team to be a tougher group of men.Could you imagine Seibold, for eg,criticising this group of players? He’s already off with a few of the playing group

Need to see Walsh get some NRL games under his belt while we are playing for nothing. Perfect opportunity. Seibs is too dumb to take it though. He will persist with a bloke thats leaving in 4 weeks.
Agree, just imagine if Sieb's did this, drops Cherry. Can you imagine the firestorm of comments on the footy shows and papers. It would be huge, Siebold would get to go out swingin' in a blaze of glory. I'm just getting goose pimples on my arm just thinking about it.

I can never understand why people get upset over what Seibold says in a press conference. Its what he says behind closed doors and how the players react to it,that matters. If Manly win, does anyone care or actually listen to his press conference?
Well they’re not reacting obviously. Or he’s calling them all ****s and they’re throwing the game.

Well that in itself is a huge problem to add to the list of issues with his coaching. Bennett never blows wind up his players arses if they played like crap - he tells it straight. I’m not talking about how he says things, I’m talking about WHAT he says. And as for fans and members (both of which I am) I can tell you that there is a lot of disgruntled people and whilst they’re attending at fairly high levels now (although in the last few games it’s dropped off noticeably and not just on account of the rain) it won’t take long for them to fall away if the teams performances continue to dwindle and the coach continues to utter platitudes in his press conferences.

But this isn’t just about last night,it’s about Seibold’s whole tenure.Fans could excuse last night due to the forward pack unavailabilities, but they had enough ball and good territory to win that match and they basically had a full strength backline
Yes but our halves did SFA!

You know how I can tell he’s not invested in the club - not on a level like the fans? Because he said as much. He recently said he only wants to coach for a year or two more. He wants to move on - do other things. Does that sound like a coach that’s invested in even the idea of coaching as a career, let alone invested in this club.

Some quotes from the press conference tonight:

  • “I was really proud of the effort”
  • “Canberra have been really good this year”
  • “We led after, what? 50 minutes or 55 minutes or whatever it was”
  • “There’s a tonne of effort”
  • “We did a lot of good things in the first half”
  • “We had a red hot crack”

Another key stat from tonight’s presser: the word “effort” was used 9 times! (6 from Seibold, 3 from DCE)

As mentioned the other day, this guy loves a bit of mediocrity lol. As long as you do the bare minimum of wanting to win the game as a professional athlete though it doesn’t matter how many times you fall short right!?
Not in ANY way supporting the coach but remember , the entire ( well once Jurbo went off ) forward pack from game 1 was missing last night.

You take the Raiders entire pack out and replace with their reserves and see how they go.

That would be a fair comparison.

Like last week we did okay for about 50 minutes , then capitulated.

I would actually back siebs if he did it. But his history shows he doesn't have the balls or wadell has goat pics, one or the other.

Its a thing in the USA.
Coaches do not publicly diss players. For fear that they will not want to play for them.
30 MLB teams ( cheapest will cost you close to $2B ) and the only manager who has publicly spoken bad about a player no longer has a job.

Like des did you back the players through thick and thin, and hope they repay you.
A USA thing hey? Obviously, Bennett, Bellamy, Stuart, Cleary, Flannagan, Ryles, Payten, Marshall, Hasler and co don't watch much American sport.
