You could substitute titans for manly and Des for Seibs and get the same result!

Coach maybe part of the issues but not the main reason we are in such a bad position that lies with Penn and co.I’m sure there aren’t any really ardent Seibold fans on here currently , but as I’ve often said , I’m neither totally pro or totally anti , rather I’m ambivalent and I think there is a fair few of us on here that would be in this category.
But there’s also a lot of anti , and some VERY anti
the current coach members on here , almost all are Des devotees , and all are “ we need a coach with Manly DNA entrenched “ , and I think we have to accept that this is their view and they aren’t changing it.
As to the items that support that view , there will no doubt be some.
So which do you believe ??? , well you believe whichever story suits your narrative , and the other side is bull****, sadly that’s human nature these days rarely do people want to look at both sides of a story , they choose their side and that’s the side of truth regardless, the other side ( regardless of any facts ) , utter garbage.
100%, that’s where the root of all the issues are.Coach maybe part of the issues but not the main reason we are in such a bad position that lies with Penn and co.
Seibold did get Dally M Coach of the year in 2018, with Souths. But ever since it has been a downward trajectory. I think he should be moved on if he doesn't make the 8 next year. He was brought in during a premiership window, and now hes a rebuilding type coach. What sort of message is Penn sending when the scope of the job changes but still keeps with the same coach irrespective. For the "sack him now, we're getting the spoon next year" bunch, here's a little bit of perspective.
In 2015, the now four-time premiership winning coach Ivan Cleary, brought a Panthers team that had finished in the Top 4 the year prior, down to 11th. Many sources now say he was white-anted by Gould, and this led to their poor season, and his exit.
In 2016, Anthony Griffin arrived. Anthony Griffin is a **** NRL coach. You can say that with near certainty.
However, the Penrith club was in a better state, because Gould, like a tempered child who has just been given a lollipop, led a stable and effective management. This translated into week-to-week results.
In Hook's tenure, Penrith finished 6th, 7th, and 6th. At the time Hook was sacked in 2018, they were in 5th.
However, the catch was their finals record.
2016 - they beat a depleted Dogs outfit, flogged by Raiders week after.
2017 - Beat a Barrett-coached Manly, that managed to make the finals for similar reasons, lost to Broncos week after.
2018 - Hook was sacked prior to finals.
The much better coach arrives the year after, but Gould also leaves, and between the club's inner turmoil, plus Ivan Cleary having a poor year in his personal life, they finish 10th.
2020, the club gets their stocks back in order, some generational juniors enter the team, Ivan gets back to his best, and hence, they go on to win the minor premiership, and make the GF.
How is this relevant to us?
I see Seibold as being in the same tier as Griffin. He can thrive in a good environment, week-to-week, but fails in adversity. He's not a good coach, he's mediocre. He's not winning us a premiership.
If the rumour that everyone hears is to be believed, DCE and the Turbos said this exact thing to Mestrov last year. Seibold is not the future. Much like how Griffin wasn't the answer for the Panthers.
However, DCE's corresponding actions, in response to Mestrov keeping Seibold, among other reasons, made sure that we wouldn't even be able to make the finals, let alone win a premiership.
How can you even tell if Seibold can coach us to finals wins, if we don't even make them?
The way I see it, our club has MASSIVE problems elsewhere. Known achievers, stalwarts of the game and coaching, like Laurie Daley and Jake Turpin are turning us down. That should be ringing alarm bells.
In Daley's case, he is said to have rejected our approach, not because he didn't want to work with Seibold, but purely because it was leaked, and shat on in the media immediately.
My point is that there will be a point where we need to upgrade on Seibold. That could be why Ballin is almost certainly returning.
However, we're going absolutely nowhere if we scapegoat individuals. We have a massive list of problems, and while sacking Seibold may deliver a sugar rush, it leaves us in a situation where we have very little continuity, whilst none of the other problems have been truly corrected. We may improve in the short term, but those structural issues will rear their head again, before too long.
Think about it, in one off-season, we would be losing:
1. The coach,
2. His assistants,
3. The captain, halfback, and chief playmaker,
4. A leader among the Pasifika contingent of the team
5. Seven other NRL players
6. An additional assistant coach
Is losing so much in one go a recipe for success? Absolutely not.
Before we even get to the coaching staff, there are some much simpler issues that can be solved.
1. A bumbling media manager, who couldn't keep the Tigers, and now us, out of the spotlight. This will hurt us DRASTICALLY in the long term.
2. Injuries - purely based upon luck.
3. An aging roster. Already being addressed.
4. The Turbo's being unhappy. These are guys who survived Barrett's reign. Listen to them.
We're not cutting off our fingers to remove a tumour, if we solve those issues. That doesn't mean fixing these problems won't improve us significantly.
When things get to a point of crisis, sometimes, the best option is to just wait it out. Be patient. Think. Don't give into emotions, because they lie.
Of course I want to upgrade on Seibold. But there is a time. I think we have bigger fish to fry.
