Serious question and buggered if I know the answer

The Turnaround in Form. Why? How? But the real question is how do we maintain it? Origin coming up - potential / likely injuries etc. Whatever switched everything from doom to WOW....how do we keep it going? Buggered if I know the answer...does anyone?

Generally speaking there was no turnaround in form, but it has got better.....

they were outstanding defensively, against all the odds in Round 1 (only had 30 something mins of possession and were playing against 14).

In Round 2 on fire in attack and then possession went against them again, down 3 props, and were still in front 20 to go.......

Stability in keys positions
Better game plan with key players executing
Smart recruitment to cover deficiencies i.e. green/uate
Bigger forward pack and more 2nd phase ball
Maybe less distractions (i.e. Snake/DCE)
More depth which hasn't been tested yet really i.e. Hastings can covet if DCE goes down
Trent has found his feet as an NRL coach i.e. More confident and capable leader can be infectious for the team
Finally some key players and fit and playing better

The effort plays are there.
The support - extra movement off the ball....also energy in defence, taking pride in the defensive line and all digging in...even those OFF the ball, are communicating.
Most important they are coming together as a tight knit group of players - you can't fake it...this shows in the tough times and the excitement and pats on the backs...for big defence...appreciating each other and believing in the team, pride in that Manly emblem....trust in Barrett's vision....and the players seem to be growing individually and as a team understanding their roles and what they best need to do - to give positive input into the team....
That's my take, but there's plenty more we could add...
Great thread BTW...

No-one knows. Nobody knew coaching footy was so complicated. It's a miracle.

I think it was never a turnaround first 2 loses was unlucky, from last to this year it's the spine for me everyone playing well.

Having a full off season would definitely be a major factor. Having a clear direction on what the team wants to achieve under a single clear leader helps too. DCE has really made this team his own.

I don't want to take credit but I will, I threw some magic pixie dust over the team after round two. Make sure your show your gratitude by donating 15% of your weekly wage to me, it's not easy raising a Zombie son as a single Dad (Mary was just a surrogate).

Cheers
God.

It's purely a slight change in attitude and the competition for positions.
Everyone in the team wants to stay in the team and there is serious competition for positions. If you look at who is assured of a position, given our depth now, there's probably only five who are guaranteed of running on or sitting on the bench each week:
Turbo
Walker
DCE
Jake
Marty

The wingers are competing against Parker, Jonno Wright and Matthew Wright
Kelly is up against Matthew Wright and Parker
Green is up against Hastings and Cullen
And then there's the forwards with Kennedy, Lane, Hastings and Perret plus Billy Bainbrige. when he's not injured and next year I think he'll be a permanent member.

So, there's huge competition for spots in the team.

Winterstein has been a revelation for me. Sure he doesn't bend the line in attack, but his defence and speed off the line cramps opposition plays on his side of the field. He reminds me a bit of Rambo (Ronny Gibbs) but without the shoulder charges.

Sirro is probably more of a Paul McCabe type player, can offload and hits hard and once his timing starts to gel with other players in attack, I think you'll see him putting players in gaps whether it be with a pass or a kick, but it all depends who will run off him and it will probably Walker or Uate, and maybe even Turbo who could change it up, as I think other teams will be very alert to Jake's inside ball to Tom from now on.

As Cameron McIness said in the Tele article today... "Defence is an attitude" which the storm have heaps of and Manly had under Bozo in the 80's and the team is starting to show that now, where they trust in each other.

There's been a huge improvement in the "1 percenters". The team are playing like a team, and playing for each other, and making all the little 1% plays.

Everything suggested here is correct. For mine it has been the 2nd row.

They have been fundamental in shaping the defence and adding the starch and structure of the edge/outside with their positional play. It has meant that everybody else has been able to concentrate on their jobs without continually readjusting.

In attack, even though they are often running decoys or are cut-out they are still linking the play makers with the outside backs and keeping good "shape"

The good news is there is a lot of improvement in them as 80min players remember last year they only did

2016 Siro 8 games average 51mins.
2016 Winterstein 3 games average 56 mins.

Quite simply:
  1. Trent is following me on Silvertails
  2. Dylan read my post giving him a rocket after the South's loss - it was reverse psychology at it's best
  3. I've been 'liking' DCE's posts on Instagram
  4. I have been tipping against us - that usually works
  5. What @Woodsie said
