Lets hope they sell soon
And who would step in to buy the club?, because buying into Manly would mean pouring some of your money down the drain every year, as only Brisbane and Souths manage to make a profit.
Hate to say it, but if it wasn't for the Penns Manly would most likely have disappeared as we could no longer be propped up by the leagues club, as that went years before.

We would not exist without them, simple as that.Like it or not we need them right now.

Shared a beer at the bar with Max Delmege at Gold Coast casino 2 weeks ago and he is chomping at the bit to buy Manly back..but like most people reddies are a problem at the moment I suspect:}

Wouldn't mind ivan cleary. Really would just prefer the club to realise they made a mistake and bring back tooves. When we were bottom of the ladder last year, what inspired the players to come back and nearly make the 8? Toovey. Whether it was to make sure toovey doesn't get sacked or toovey motivating his players there was a reason for our late surge, just can't see the same with barrett.

Lets just say for argument that Barrett is booted at the end of this season and the club decided they wanted someone who has been part of the Manly culture to take over. Who would be the candidates?

* Des Hasler - Still a favourite of Bozo and Zorba which carries more weight with the club than Zorba's pie intake. Has runs on the board as a Manly coach in the past. Depends on the Dogs I guess.

* Ivan Cleary - Hasn't actually been at Manly since 1992 but is a local junior. Took the under-performing Warriors to the 2011 GF against us before linking with Penrith where I think he was unfairly sacked at the end of last year. A possible who in his playing days was coached by 2 of the best, Bozo and Gus Gould.

* Geoff Toovey - Unfortunately there is no chance in hell while the Penn's own the club.

* Steve Menzies - Is he too nice a guy to be a successful first grade coach? Beaver strikes me as a guy who would be a very good juniors coach teaching the kids, but I think he lacks that mean streak needed to be a coach in the NRL (i.e. that ability to separate being a coach from being a mate). I'd also hate for him to become coach and end up with a record that Brad Fittler could relate to.

* Brett or Scott Fulton - Nepotism is the only thing that could see the name Fulton coaching Manly any time soon (unless Bozo makes his own comeback).

* Cliff Lyons - Might be worth a shot if he's ever interested. But as someone said in another thread, can what Cliffy did as a player be coached? He was the king of ad-lib football, a genius with the ball in his hands. But is that something easily passed on to others?

Dez may be one of the Collaroy residents who will become homeless after the king tides wash away the rest of his home tonight

A “MILLIONAIRE’S row” of some of Sydney’s most luxurious waterfront homes is on the brink of collapse after a low pressure system covering the entire NSW coast dealt a killer blow.

Among the houses is one owned by Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs coach Des Hasler. The Collaroy property was flooded and sections were destroyed.

His wife Christine Hasler said yesterday they were counting their blessings. “We are very lucky,” she said.

This was yesterday, before last night's king tide which took another 5 meters away.

So apart from Back Ended contracts, what else did Dessie do with all this control that we now don't want him to have ?
My point is, if his control leads to a dictatorship, he becomes a kind of Fuhrer and this leads to Premierships, what's the harm? Or does the harm outweigh the good ?
He might put club noses out of joint, but shape a dynasty that wins the comp. He can come back on the strict understanding that he cannot negotiate Back ended contracts. He can negotiate CPI increase contracts or similar ONLY.
The most efficient form of Leadership / Government is the benevolent dictatorship. The issue has always been that they may start as benevolent but are corrupted by the absolute power.

I'd take Ivan Cleary in a dead set heart beat to TB. At the moment. I just can't see the bloke being a motivational type. I can see it. The boys are in the sheds, the cards are on the table.... Trent walks in, were down 20-4 at half time, "ok boys that was a good half, we had a few bad calls, the bounce of the ball wil change, complete your sets and we will win this".

In comparison - Toovey

" the **** do you think you guys are doing out there, this is manly! Get out there and give it every single thing you've got until you can't walk, and when you're crawling you still keep ****ing fighting until you're dead, and when you're dead and bleeding maroon on the field then maybe I'll consider not dropping your for you soft cock of a performance"
Luv it, Barrett has no right to be there, not manly at all, never will be

Why do people believe no one would buy Manly if the penns were wanted out? We had Phil Sydney until he got sick of the Penns games in the media. Even last year the Penns sold a minor share holding in the Sea Eagles about 30 or 40 per cent I think to two other blokes.

It may not be like offloading a mint condition xu1. But when they want out, I'm confident we'll find new owners.

Phil Sidney exited for the same reason Delmege exited, $$$$$$$$$, go and check out the Balance Sheet of Quantum.
I don't see any other mega wealthy people knocking the door down. Very very happy for you to prove me wrong with some names.
