The Warriors have played at home in Keno Super Saturday three times this year. On each occasion they were breaking the law.

“We had some understanding of the Department of Internal Affairs over overseas gambling being promoted in the country but I guess we didn't fully appreciate that Keno might've been one of those,” says Warriors chief executive Wayne Scurrah.

Internal Affairs wrote to the NRL in May 2009 drawing the league's attention to section 16 of the Gambling Act 2003 which prohibits the advertising of overseas gambling in New Zealand.

They sought the assistance of the NRL to ensure clubs weren't in breach of New Zealand law.

Internal Affairs have previously ordered the Wellington Phoenix to remove a Centrebet billboard from Westpac Stadium and the Newcastle Jets to remove the Centrebet logo from their playing shirts.

The warriors have passed the concerns over to the NRL as Keno is a competition sponsor, not a club sponsor. The Warriors wants to remain onside with the NRL.

“It's important for us to have the NRL's sponsors properly presented otherwise games might not be played in New Zealand,” says Scurrah.

The NRL says there is a possibility the Warriors could lose Saturday home games in the future.

Internal affairs want this issue resolved before the Warriors play the Storm on Saturday at Mt Smart Stadium but the NRL are yet to decide if they will order the Warriors to remove the logos.

We will just cover it up for games in NZ.
The sponsors won't get much value when that's happening 13 games a year.
