Souths Game - Manly Experience for my Son

Waz13

Let’s all have a chew!
Hey All,
Coming down for the Souths game and it will be my sons (15yrs) first time to Brookie. I’ve been down before but it’s been many many years and I stayed in Balmain with my brother at the time.

We are staying a couple of nights and want to stay locally. Is it better to stay right in manly or closer to the ground? We will trip round Sydney/Manly a bit on the sat, but game day I kinda want to be around the ground maybe check out the leagues club and go see the lower grades. Monday we’ll head into the city eastern suburbs before flying out late.

Also we have away membership, but any tips on seats would be great as we can select them now. Happy to pay a little more too.

Any tips from locals or those who have headed to Brookie regularly would be really appreciated.

Cheers (and sorry if this thread is in the wrong place)

Hi,
I'd suggest staying in or close to Manly itself if you can (airbnb and and plenty of other options should be available) as it's easy to get to Brooky with public transport or taxi/Uber on game day?
Not a great deal stuff locally in Brooky for a teenager but there's plenty to do in Manly and you have an easy option to get a ferry from Manly to the city for other activities.
Not sure of game day schedule for lower grades (anyone?) But the Leagues Club, The Brookvale Hotel, Brookvale Chinese (for Yum cha) and a host of local craft brewery's all do a roaring trade pre-game so no shortage of places to go and most have entertainment/good, well priced food and are safe and well run - my pick of the bunch would be 4 Pines, Leagues Club or Brookvale Hotel (I tend to meet people at Dad & Dave's brewery pre-game: Good local crowd, good live music (but not too loud we can't chat) they have the afternoon game on, good burgers at a reasonable price and a good selection of the craft beers on tap.)
Monday, you can get the ferry to the city (Google things to do - plenty of options ) and then easily get the train to the airport from there.
Hope this helps?

Thanks Vid (and good to see ya back!). Yeah I was leaning this way and have an accomodation option near the beach up around the top of the corso.

I love my craft beers so that suits me well mate. We will spend game day around brookie. I checked lower grades too and flegg is on at 12ish then onto nsw cup.

Cheers

Thanks for the kind words @BOZO. Yes very much looking forward to it. Sunday arvo at Brookie v Souths. Can’t get much better really. Just a shame our origin players (if we have any) won’t be in. But we won’t care! We’ll be cheering the team home no matter who’s playing.
Cheers

Keen to hear people’s thoughts on seating at Brookie as well. Thinking about the new stand behind the posts. Any tips from reg punters who go to games?

the arko stand is great....when the ball is down that end. last time i sat there when the ball was at the other end i was watching foxtel on my phone as the big screen was no use either.
go the hill, the atmosphere there makes up for the fact you are sitting on the ground
