Winging it
The season may have ended in disappointing fashion, but there were plenty of performances during the season to put a smile on the faces of Manly fans in 2012.
Winger Jorge Taufua was a revelation in the metres gained department - running for over 200 metres on three occasions throughout the year (twice in the playoffs).
His season high was 268 metres on 20 runs in the Semi Final win over the Cowboys, followed by his 245 metres on 16 runs in the Qualifying Final against the Dogs and 230 metres in Round 15 against the Storm from 19 runs.
He also cracked the 150 metre mark on 6 other occasions, including 169 on debut in Round 5 against Parramatta.
The only other Manly player to pass 200 metres in a single game was left centre Steve Matai who had 205 from 17 runs in Round 5 against Parramatta.
Joining Taufua in the 150+ metre club were Brent Kite (once in Round 21 v Warriors with 153 metres on 18 carries), Darcy Lussick (Round 13), Matai (Rounds 5 & 9), Brett Stewart (Rounds 8 & 13), Anthony Watmough (Rounds 9,13 & 22), Dean Whare (Rounds 9,15,19,20 & 21), David Williams (Rounds 10 & 23) and finally, Tony Williams (Rounds 1, 19 and the Qualifying Final v Bulldogs).
In all, that meant eight Sea Eagles busted the 150 metres gained mark in 2012.
