Having played both I reckon you wake up a lot more sore after a game of League.

But Union has the opportunity to leave you the sorest. It just doesn't happen every game. I can still play naoughts and crosses between the rake scars on my back.

Does that make sense?

True Mata. When the Rugby laws allowed you to ruck and stomp on someone on the ground (especially if you were holding the ball still) you used to cop a lot of stick at the bottom of the ruck!!!! Laws are soft now - if you touch a player on the ground you get marched!)

CW, when was your last game. I was getting tick tack toe played along my back right up until the day I retired (1999) and that was under the new law regime.

Stomping still has its place. Scrums are a lot more physically taxing and the potential for major injuries are greater in Union because you often end up in awkward positions with weight bearing down on you.

League is more brutal in terms of the ferocity of the one on one confrontation (more like gridiron). Union has a viciousness of its own in the amount of payback that can be meted out and the lack of control you have in contact situations.

Even for mine but we are comparing apples and oranges.
