He was really, really good for us in the 2011 campaign, never found those heights again after getting a bad back injury
A hard running T-Rex is best described as Jason Taumalolo. He could have been that player but he chose not to be.Rexie came to one of our MWTS functions at the LA Hotel as special guests prior to a Donkeys game , along with Jason King ( both injured at the time).
They walked up the stairs and I went over and introduced myself and thought “ jeez you are a big unit Kingdog” and also thought “ holy **** how could anyone tackle the other big monster”.
He was gigantic.
But as we know a sheep in lions clothing.
All he had to do was pick up the ball and run hard, he was almost unstoppable at speed close to the line.
Sad really, could have been an absolute superstar of our game.
when he was playing wing outside Lyon he was our top try scorer I'm pretty sure for that year.. He was mainly soft but he had his moments like in 2011 he was considered the best back rower after that finals series and on the four nations he scored every game at international level. that was his best. His worse well lol. Dorothy they call him down Belmore way lolMy memory is not what it used to be but I remember him as a really exciting player for us.......he definetely had some good moments.
At some points in his Manly days, he was one of our main strike weapons and one of those guys you couldn't wait till he got his hands on the ball.
Jason who? That's how good Tony was on a good dayA hard running T-Rex is best described as Jason Taumalolo. He could have been that player but he chose not to be.
Tony Williams, also known as ‘T-Rex’, has had a glittering NRL career, collecting a decade’s worth of highlights along the way.
I'll never forget this one game foran took it to the line got smashed set it up on a platter for she Rex and he ran the wrong line and got tackled.. The look on forans face I'll never forget bahahahaYou know what the sad thing is? Right now we have a player in our ranks who could be just as damaging as T-Rex was on his best day, maybe even more so. But like Williams, he's as lazy as the summer days are long and hot.
I refer of course to Shaun Lane.
As for T-Rex.....the journalist who wrote that is 100% correct. He won a lot in his career that others with a much better work ethic and more talent have only dreamed about. A premiership with Manly, a Four Nations with the Kangaroos and an Origin series with NSW. But he had so much wasted potential. As @desreturnoftheking said, most of the time he needed Foran screaming at him to run the ball hard for him to at his best. Once he went to the Dogs he lost that.
I hope Lane has the same success, especially playing for Manly. But he needs to get his arse into gear and make it happen or soon enough he'll be 30 and like T-Rex, he'll realise that for the most part he wasted his career.
I agree the guy had it all even some silky passes especially that inside ball to snake in the finals 2011. close to the line with foran serving it up on a platter for him he should of scored every game. One on one he should of been unstoppable but he was just a bitch..A hard running T-Rex is best described as Jason Taumalolo. He could have been that player but he chose not to be.
