Tallyn Da Silva

I just posted a snippet on the signings thread that according to the Knights forum we have also signed an under19s blues forward named Jack Hilliar. I guess it's a wait and see until official or not but I thought others would like to know.
Just followed your link, Andrew. Somebody else has chimed in and is now saying he's gone to the Bulldogs. Even though I have no idea who he is, I'll be disappointed if that's right. 🙂

I was just about to say the same thing

Yeah just checked link the baz they mention is Barry Toohey a newcastle journo if he says mutts unfortunately he is probably correct as he is normally spot on with knights news

Realistically as long as our team form is Jekyll and Hyde (recent emphasis more on Hyde); we have no other new signings who look likely to improve our strengths; and the most we can say about our coach is apparently "Seibs is a great guy and he's safe....for at least the next two games", we can probably forget about being serious market contenders for young talent. Reckon you'd need rocks in your head frankly. In the event it looks like sqEels came in with Silly Money and that was the clincher.

Yes the cashed up Dogs. Keep signing NSW forwards whilst the don't even have a leagues club Eagles don't have to worry about recruitment.

$650k is a bit steep for the kid don’t you think… and a 4 year contract!
650k for just an ordinary kid is a bit steep for 4 years

But for a Quality kind of kid with high end Potential that plays in the critical spine position it is a good Investment to build your roster
Time will tell and if TDS rings the Bell at Parra he will be a good buy

I'm a bit confused about your comment. It just doesn't add up.

The ARL / NSWRL, introduced a salary cap in 1990.

In 1984, Ken 'Arko' Arthurson became the Chairman of the Australian Rugby League (ARL) and in 1986 took over from Tom Bellew as Chairman of the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL).

If what I have researched and written is true, how could he have paid unders to sign players?
Well run clubs that are successful and provide a winning environment for players that tend to go there for unders

And Under Arko who is known to be the Greatest NRL Administrator of all Time
The Manly Club reigned Sea eagle Supreme

Manly was blessed to have Arko who made Manly Great .
We can call him our Godfather for Good reason

This last minute farce of failing to get our man
Never happened when we had the best administrator and negotiator in Arko
and he used to sign them for unders 😉

You haven't answered the question where I have asked "how could he have paid unders to sign players?".

Considering that the salary cap was introduced in 1990 and Arko had left the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles Administration in 1984 to became the Chairman of the Australian Rugby League (ARL), why would he even be signing players for us when the salary cap was introduced, let alone for unders when he wasn't even a part of the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles Administration?

So the young forward we have swapped Arthur for , he’s injured and not available until next year ??? ( is that correct )

So didn’t fix our lack of forwards this year does it !!

What a pity
I don’t think it really matters to us. They were desperate for a half and we and the knights obviously see some worth in this young forward. We have surplus halves coming through and Walsh and large are ahead of Arthur in the pecking order now. Did we sign him to a top thirty contract for this year? He may not have been on one at Newcastle as he was playing flegg so it might not take up a squad spot.

Yes,Paul Bryan was in the Knights top 30 squad

I have answered you the question
Salary cap has nothing do with this
Even before the salary cap players would accept unders to play for superior clubs than inferior club
And our Great Godfather was responsible for making Manly Great
Our God father Glorified our Manly Club and every player wanted to be part of the Glory

I'm bemused. Reports suggest La Silva has signed a four and a half year contract with the Eels. Question I'd ask is, despite the contract length being a year longer than that offered by the Sea Eagles, why would a junior choose the Eels over the Sea Eagles, a team again competing yet again for the Spoon and coached by a novice, to be chosen over a beach located side with an extensive premiership history, obviously in need of a long term hooker, formerly and maybe in some circles still seen as a glamour club. Unless the money was much higher, does it mean coming to the Sea Eagles is as much a No No as going to Wests. Is Manly on the nose these days or what? I guess we'll just have to hope young Ashton Large develops into the star expected of him in years to come.

I'm guessing money first and foremost, but I also suspect that their Big Shiny New Biggest in The World Centre of Excellence kinda outperformed our Scotty's Gym Up the Top of The Stand (aka The Penn Centre of Excellence).

I think another poster mentioned it earlier, these days it largely just comes down to $$$. This deal reeks of an Eels last minute play for DaSilva. Reckon we had him prob 3yrs at $550k a year or something. Then Parra have last minute thrown everything at him to trump us, which was maybe an extra 100k a year and an extra year. Time will tell if it pays off for Parra. It’s a risk tho.

One of the answers would be
The Eels are changing their culture with the changing of their new coach and are looking to a fresh and brighter future .

Having spoken to both clubs
Maybe he sees a more promising future with the Club that endorsed the confidence in his potential to offer him an additional year contract.

Time will tell
What we know 100% is
There is a shortage of Quality halves and hookers
and the shortage is going to shorten with 2 new team coming into the comp soon
