That makes for a lot of failures, BOZO. It also ignores coaches who have won a premiership, like Ricky Stuart did in his very first year (2002), and haven't done anything much since. Has he been entitled to bask in that glow for the last 22 years?
I'd put Des in the same "What Have You Done for Me Lately?" basket. He last won a premiership in 2011. The only trophies he's won since are the 2017 and 2021 Vidal Sassoon Best Hair in Rugby League (Mature Age Category) Awards.
If you insist your current coach must have won a premiership, no matter how far back that might have been, you are narrowing the field of suitable candidates considerably, without necessarily guaranteeing any success in the future.
When you think about players, there is always new talent in rugby league. There's no reason those players need to be coached by the same group of grumpy old men (Wayne, Bellyache, Robbo, Des, Ricky, Flanno, etc) until the old buggers finally decide to retire. Ivan Cleary, with his three-peat, has arguably achieved more than any of them, and up until 2021 he was just another coach who'd failed to perform to premiership-winning standards…
