The Daly Cherrygraph

Possibly ... just possibly ... DCE's performance last night had a lot to do with the fact that for a rare occasion this year we had forward momentum and plenty of attacking field position ... something that he hasn't had a lot of this year .. and certainly, didn't have in SOO ..

Compare Reynolds game as the contrast .. no field position = shocker for a half.
Exactly!

Wouldn't it be great to see DCE come out with another presser after all the flack he has copped lately and say, I have had a really good think and have decided to hang up the boots at the end of this year and stay a one club player for Manly, Yes I know, I know, wishful thinking . At least that would be a way to save some respect with all us fans

Hate to burst your bubble but ain’t no fans changing their opinion on him… he has hardly missed a game for us in the last 10 years and led us through some really sh*tty periods by playing at Origin-level standards yet plenty of fans STILL have not let go of the Gold Coast backflip and blame him for the massive contract that Manly gave him because they prioritised Foz and then scrambled to keep Chez…

People will always have different opinions of people’s motivations and the reasons behind a lack of club success and I can guarantee you that is not going to change one way or another if Chez hung up the boots at season’s end…

personally I hope he does play a couple more seasons and I am keen to see what he does with a quality roster around him… we will find out whether he always was a gun or whether he only succeeded because he was “lucky” to be in a team of champions early on… mind you, I doubt it will change anyone’s opinion of him either way…

roosters must be salivating
They should be because they are a good side that is very poorly managed by their halves… Sandon Smith’s Anzac Day game stood out so much because it is nowhere near the norm as the majority of their tries seem to come off individual brilliance… Savale is a great long kicker but neither are great decision-makers at this point…

They do have Chad Townsend.

DCE captaining Queensland to the 2020 origin series win with a backline of Corey Allan, Edrick and Brenko Lee & Philip Sami plus a few other forwards will always be his greatest triumph.

How Queensland won that series Fittler should have punted on the flight home

Im not sure how that outcome works and what it changes by way of anyone's thinking tbh.

Firstly I feel Manly in some years have had a quality roster and a couple more were ruined with injuries to key players. But to your point, I dont see how going to a strong team/quality roster and winning another GF shows he was a gun all along, it just means he went to a team with a quality roster that would reach near top of the table by end of year, like the early manly teams, and played his part in winning the GF like he did with Manly.

The last 10 years shows me he has some freakish ability, we have all witnessed that! But he doesnt keep his head on, and nor is he consistent like the Cronks, Thurstons and Cleary of more recent years. They were/are guns and pretty consistent, particularly Thurston as much as I hate to say it, leading the cowboys from the front over the years as they finally built into a GF winning squad.

These players were always a danger. DCE is not.
These players always at least had a go. DCE does not.

Totally disagree… I have never seen Chez not “have a go” in his 330+ games… actually I reckon he often overplays his hand because he is trying to turn a pigs ear into a silk purse…

If he rocks up to a team like the chooks then it will be a team with some quality players but also a young roster… Crichton, Robson, Watson, Collins are the only current representative-level players in the squad (unless I have missed someone?) and Tupou and Tedesco played rep previously but are back-end of their careers…

However, it IS a quality young roster and, imo, leading that squad to a GF (particularly if they miss finals this year) will cement his legacy - at least to the impartial observer… it is a team game and not one of the players you mention (particularly Cronk and Cleary - I mean wtf?) won a GF without 3 or 4 other “superstars” in their team… granted Cleary almost won a GF single-handed in my favourite non-Manly game ever lol (but even then Crichton, Edwards, Yeo and Leota were massive in that game and the team was littered with rep players)…

Having said that, if he can’t take them to a GF then his haters will forever be able to disregard his ability as a quality half… although tbf, I doubt their minds will change regardless…

Have a go

How do you define that considering

If you dont run direct, crab accross field , only take on the line when caught, look to avoid contact in a contact sport when kicking and playmaking

A non running half who just shelved his running game mid 8 year contract

Many believe his run of games is a direct result of avoiding contact

The headless chook moments are him runnning in circles and conceding to avoid contact

Racing out of the line in defence is more about cherry than the team,

He has always been
I would do anything for love………but i wont do that ……….kinda captain
It then becomes someone elses job

having a go ?

Maybe “having a go”is the new small,
“red hot go “is the new medium
and “hugo a go go “is the new large
X large is still x large. I ran out of names

Aerobically , he is all over the place for sure, but since origin 24 ……..not so much of that either. I do agree he overplays his hand . Some of that is a real good attitude and some is low footy IQ on the run

Not hate franky……. Just footy
Can only speak for myself but I respect DCE plenty good as a human and clubman , its just the forum where both ends of the truth are stretched, and where the hate is balanced by unadulterated love.
Its either BOOOOOO or
KISSY KISSY SMOOCHY BUM

I will say though mate , you have been loyal and steadfast. Admiration at your stance .Good posting

Respect your opinion, you may get a few supporters who will also tell me cherry has had a go in all of his 330+ games.

Agree with the overplaying his hand, when trying too hard, or just plainly doing it at the wrong time in games

Just on that, you forgot one or two (!)
Toia, new Origin player
Wong has played for Fiji and current Tonga rep (win over NZ and close loss to australia)
Whyte current New Zealand Test player
Spencer Leniu current Origin
Dom Young current England Test player

Yeah fair call, Spencer was an bad omission and Toia now makes the list…

in my defence I totally forgot Dom was a pommy rep (although he is out the door anyways so moot point) and had no clue the other two played rep…
No argument it is a very good side but I reckon taking them from missing finals (potentially) to making a GF will be attributed to Chez… IF he can do it, and it is a big IF - we actually don’t even know he is going there yet…
