The Daly Cherrygraph

Watching poor old Jake still having to answer questions about where Cherry is going next year (because we're playing the Roosters, and everybody bar Cherry seems to have acknowledged that as a locked-in fact), I would just like to reiterate how much I hate the way Cherry has handled his departure, and continues to handle it - or, more properly, not to handle it.

Yes, he's entitled to go wherever he wants, for whatever reason or reasons he wants, but he has carried on like a prize f#ckwit since his "I'll Play Anywhere but Manly Next year" announcement, and if he still hasn't even told his teammates, he is treating them with the same contempt and disrespect that he's treating Manly fans and the Manly club.

Someone needs to tell him that being captain of the club means more than just showing up at press conferences after the game.
I still can’t believe he wasn’t replaced by Jake as captain straight after the announcement.

Pretty obvious the silence was a condition put on by Chooks, so as not to distract their young halves this year.
Which (equally obviously) didn't work because for months its been an open secret that he's going there.
Plus the young Chook halves have played well anyway, so the whole secret squirrel thing was unnecessary and Manly is the only party harmed (maybe part of those bastard Chooks plan all along)

So the very least Daly owes is to make sure Manly wins on Saturday.

Ridiculous hey. Jake bleeds maroon and white and will go down as a club legend. Daly, maybe for the punters but anyone with a clue can see he’s a mercenary who just happened to get paid really well here for ten years.
I think DCE did/does have a love for the Sea Eagles but he also loves money. He is obviously going to the the chickens to set up his nine commentary gig after football and probably feels they are better placed to challenge for a premiership next year. As things stand, they probably are a much better chance than we are. His plan will go pear shaped if we are better without him and they are worse.

Interesting David Riccio on NRL360 raised what many are thinking, and that is Roosters will have 2 halves who are more trickshot players in 2026 rather than game managers, and manly have often played with team mates not always knowing what DCE will do, and will have Fogerty in 2026 who will be more simple, driving the team around the park, better game management and getting the ball to where it needs to be rather than trying his own thing first.

“Probably are” more like definitely are. They’ll probably be favourites to win the comp with the cherry and Robson signings

The Roosters already have 5 current Origin players, plus Tedesco who should have been 6 and will likely win the Dally M. But they are below us on the ladder.

I feel like adding another 2 current/recent Origin players by itself isn't really going to solve whatever problem/s they have.

There'd be a bitter-sweet irony if it were to pan out the same way as the Jack Wighton move from the Raiders to the Rabbitohs...

Sounds like someone isn't in Uncle Nick's pocket, given co-worker Buzz has been trotting out the line of "DCE is a great game manager and is exactly what Sam Walker needs".

Oh no! Doesn't suit the agenda! DCE is a great game manager, and a great signing and Manly are the stupid ones! 🙄

I'm stunned when Anasta and a couple of others trot out Dce and game management in the same sentence.

Riccio and one other mentioned why Dce was cut from SOO, and it was because of his level of game management, or lack of, and just playing what's in front of him

Yeah, I scoffed out loud when I heard that one.

Just now in the storm/parra pre-game, they begin talking about the Manly/Roosters game and Brandy says he doesn't believe DCE not being upfront about his future has not impacted the Manly players at all this season and provided his reasons why, while Bryan Fletcher disagreed and provided his reasons why.

I was taking both opinions into consideration and whether it swayed my thinking when they moved on to the next game, and I realised Michael Ennis was across the table and didn't move 1 muscle to nip it in the bud and confirm the Manly players are all fine with it and its been business as usual all year.

As he is on the Manly coaching staff, you'd think he'd take any opportunity to laugh off any media storm surrounding the club he is involved in and wave off any ridiculous innuendo if that is what it was.

Agree. Dce has always been more of a 6 than a 7.

In 2017 we bought Blake Green to steer the ship so he could play what he sees in front of him. Foran coming back also brought out the best in Dce again. Huge mistake from the club allowing Foran to leave for schuster.

He has developed his game management skills however still plays off the cuff and fails to close out close games. Look at the absolute garbage he dished up against the knights a few weeks ago with the kicks on the third.

He also barely makes a tackle these days with the big Nelson take down a very notable exception.

He was on against the Storm, then against Dogs you watch him arm grab Burton and get dragged 10m before he tries to throw his legs under Burton to pull him down over his legs. That's the Dce im used to.

I’m no great Ennis fan, but he’s probably in a tough position here - if there are divides in the camp, he probably can’t win whatever he says. I can understand his saying nothing.

He is the Douglas ‘Tin Legs’ Bader of rugba league.

He was a ‘CUNextTuesday’ type as well.

In reality, no doubt his teammates do know where he is going. Either that, or they’re living in a cave in the McDonnell Ranges, without internet connectivity, between games.

which is my point - if there were not any issues, he would say so as it is not hurting anyone. But if there are divides in the camp he likely upsets some players. That is the point of my initial comment....it was better for him that he said nothing....
