The Daly Cherrygraph

Yes, I remember a few small duels with (let’s say, I certain poster on here), whom would call me out for attacking DCE garbage performances during games over the years. He seems to have shut up and gone quiet. Ironically, he would only call people out after the game and criticise them in hindsight for comments they made in the heat of the moment riding the game. Got off on taking a moral high ground after the event. Thankfully, his garbage has stopped.
Yeah, had a few ding dong exchanges. My peeve is when some constantly blame other manly players , while our 7 skates free, . But if you blame DCE your not a manly fan , but if you blame hooker/ forwards/ other halves who are also manly players its cool

Most exchanges end cool IMO if people want it to .Some people just act too personally . Years ago i had one come after me on facebook when i blocked them on ST . I was that disgraceful apparently

You and I have been banging in about DCE for years. It brings me no pleasure that it has come to this. There were myriad ways this could’ve all been handled by player and club, and the way it has been was about the worst option. Now it’s a rather inglorious separation where the club and the teammates and the supporters are the collateral to one’s preoccupation with narrative and personal need

It’s all a bit sad, but we are better off without him

The options seem to be thin on the ground for Sid.

With the glaring prospect of becoming the games GOAT Loser within another half season (something I think he will desperate to avoid) and little likelihood that the Rorters recruitment will suddenly contract a deleterious 'brain dead' condition similar to their Manly colleagues it looks like the options are:

a) announce retirement prior to final Manly game (maximising the chances of a good will farewell), and then take a break before joining the Channel 9 commentary team;

b) announce retirement after final game prior to joining the Channel 9 commentary team (pointless);

c) go as low profile as possible (practically impossible for such an ego), have a nice holiday and then announce joining the Channel 9 commentary team;

d) retire and spend a year off thanking lucky stars he didn't get a wooden spoon and then join the Channel 9 commentary team;

OR should it become untenable for a Top Ten all time loser to be casting critical judgement on current players, eliminating Channel 9 as an option (though this was no impediment for Gallen)

e) get on the drink and join the Telegraph.

as I said the options are thin on the ground.

The agro on here at times , considering we are all fans of the same club , is “ interesting “.

What about a stint on ‘I’m a Celebrity….Get me Out of Here!’?

Or ‘Survivor’?

Both are quite topical options for DCE.

No apologies required. He fooled plenty of people. I'm first to admit that on his day he is a great running half when behind a dominant team. What he isn't is an elite NRL halfback that can run a team and turn a game on his own skill. He's just an average to good NRL halfback, who I would put in the "try hard" bracket. Thinks he is great, tries to emulate the real good skillful players but just comes up short. Lacks the finesse and the natural footy brain.

He has very little subtlety in his ball playing, 8 times out of 10 its a hard face ball that could be caught by backrower, centre or winger. Not sure he knows a lot of the time either. How he hasn't managed to unlock Guaca on that edge shows me he isn't a natural ball player. He rarely takes on the line, and his junk dish off inside ball to a flat footed forward is sad. Good backer upperer though, and I'd say a fair chunk of his tries have come from that.

Sure he has kicked field goals to win us close games, but I've maintained for many a year that an elite halfback would have closed out over half those games before they got to golden point. Looks good on his resume though and makes a nice Insta post when you are the clutch hero.

His kicking game is diabolically inconsistent. Where he truly lost me was a few seasons back when we were behind in games and he started grubbering the ball into touch like that was a tactic that would score us points. His other favourite hiding place is getting into dummy half late in games when something needs to happen and he doesn't know how to make it. Clueless.

But what has always annoyed me most about DCE in this place, is the mentality of those who can't separate his paypacket from his skillset. He gets paid a lot of money therefore he must be good - what a thought process. That's not DCE's fault by the way, nor is how much we are paying him to be honest. But really ?? Actually watch the guy week in and week out and see how he isn't even in the top 10 best players in the NRL, let alone getting paid for years as THE highest money earner in the game.

Then come the excuses.... our pack is hopeless, we don't have a good 5/8, the coach is ****, Tommy is injured, we need a better dummy half, other teams target him, ........ they are endless. You could write a book on them. He tried his guts out though and never got injured in 10 years. He's really eloquent and a free thinker according to some. Like all that's worth $1.2mil a season to his fan club. I don't want a "brand" that talks in the 3rd person, I want someone who can win me some footy games.

In 10 - 20 years time when they talk great halfbacks of the NRL era, they'll mention Johns, Thurston, Cronk, Cleary and maybe some others. You can guarantee that DCE won't feature in any of those conversations.

His contract was the single worst contract that this club has ever entered into. Period. Look at the results over the last 10 years since he backflipped and we started paying him a fortune. This is the leanest run in this great club's history and it is no coincidence it has been while he has been at the helm. He suckered management as well.

But it's over now, and I'm kind of happy that more posters here are seeing the light. I will shout out @jbb/james though, he has been willing to fight the good fight more than I. I didn't have the patience anymore after the idiots extended his contract for 2 more years. Too many chess playing pigeons.
Fair post C&C

Who was it that signed (an then re-signed) him on these big $$$??? Was it Bozo? Or trent? Or who? I have short term amnesia hahaha

I’m sure Bozo was the key driver in getting DCE to backflip, but that world class CEO Joe “CocoJoy” Kelly was in charge at the time, so it was probably his brainwave to get duped into making it an 8 year $10mil deal. Let’s not forget the cherry on top (excuse the pun) where we had to sign the Dollar Chaser’s best mate Nate Myles as the kicker to get him to stay. What a value add that was.

The brain snap 2 year extension was most likely all Mr Fluffys doing, as I think we were in between CEOs in 2022.

Oddly enough, considering how Cherry's other contract negotiations have played out, that extension was done with very little fanfare. It just kind of… happened. Which probably means we paid a hefty price again. I remember thinking at the time we'd be stuck with him well into his 40s.

I cant see that DCE was not going to backflip and get his 8 year/ 10M deal based on whether Nate Miles was signed or not. I wouldn't turn down that deal even if they didn't sign my mother.

Apart from SOO teammates, are they even that close.

I miss those CocoJoy jerseys……said no one ever. Did we ever get any money out of that deal?
