If Foran had told Manly that he has already signed with Parramatta, the Club would have signed DCE for $850-900K for say 3 years. Titans would never be mentioned.
DCE appears to have an issue with Penn/Seibold and indicated he is leaving the Club. It appears to be not over money.
From my guess DCE thinks he has one more year in himself and then wants to move into coaching. He could not see that being at Manly.
From what I see snippets of DCE is tight with the players. Joey Walsh will be forever grateful for time DCE and Brooks put into his development.

Maybe, though I'd say any player that went on TV to announce he wants to play for any other club and won't accept any offers from manly, (he rejected an offer just days later) would be getting kicked up the arse in here. Make that person your captain, and people will put the steel boots on.

It is reported by Weidler that DCE felt disrespected. There is no further information on that to determine if it was about money or the way certain people high up/or perhaps not high up were treating him.

All that has been reported is manly put a figure to him, reported to be 750k, and DCE had told the club he had not made his mind up whether he would stay/play on in 2026. Manly apparently didn't put a formal offer in, instead waiting on DCE to advise if he was going to play on.

The narrative around dce not rating seibold somewhat takes a hit in my mind when you think back to DCE talking in a presser after a loss about how he went away from the coach's instructions, and played a different game plan.

Is that something he would say if he went away from the game plan, whether in the heat of the battle or deliberately. It sounds like an admittance he made an error and should have played the game plan - made by a coach he apparently doesn't think can coach.

I may be wrong, wouldn't be the first time.

My theory is it went something like this:

The NRL advised Manly that they would register a contract for DCE at around $500k.

The club said to DCE this is a good opportunity for us to have a tilt at the title, and asked DCE if he would sign a contract for that amount, perhaps even insinuating that it was a good opportunity for him to give back to the club.

DCE was insulted because he thought he was worth double that.

DCE asked his manager to call the Roosters. The Roosters said they would pay him $1m, structured in a way that would be $500k in the cap. This made him more annoyed at Manly for their insulting offer.

DCE knew he had to manage the PR aspect carefully. He had to make the club out to be the bad guys, but he couldn’t say that or he would look like the bad guy.

DCE went on 100% Footy to make his announcement and get all his talking points across. He was trying to do the right thing by the club etc…

The club panicked and offered him $700k for 2 years.

Manly’s offer was a problem for DCE and the Roosters. On 100% Footy DCE had said there was no bad blood with the club. He also said the club never made him an offer. He could hardly announce that he had signed with the Roosters for $500k now.

The Roosters and DCE have been trying to work out how to manage the situation ever since.

They started leaking stories that DCE had issues with people at the club. DCE started making cryptic comments in press conferences.

They have decided that now is the time to leak the $500k figure, so people aren’t surprised when the announcement is made at the end of the season.

The announcement will be made when the Roosters campaign ends.

DCE won’t badmouth the club, but he will answer questions in a way that will encourage speculation that there is bad blood but DCE is too respectful to say anything.

In the meantime the Roosters/DCE PR machine will go into overdrive leaking stories (which DCE will refuse to commment on but not deny) about all the problems at Manly, issues with Siebold/teammates, why DCE went to a professional team so he can have a shot at another premiership etc etc etc

Precisely why publicly abandoning ship with a full season still to play was such a destructive move. Hope he doesn't play today, put Joey in for a run.
