Much has been written about Gordy .... the prevailing Silvertails legend is that he is a star in the making ... and the answer to our dummy half needs ...

Other than the trial game ... I have now watched Gordy play at least 5 times in reserves and Flegg ... not a lot granted, but enough to have formed a more educated assessment of how I rate his future than I had from just the trial.

So I'm interested in how those that have watched him in reserves rate him

Never seen him so won't commit but I'll willingly give my left nut for at least one of these "guns/megastars/next immortal/once in a generation players" that we supposedly have hidden in the lower grades to emerge!

Hey mate, he looked good in the trial against men. There was a marked difference in that games intensity from him than I see in his performances for Blacktown (as you do with many players).

He is shifty. Shifty at dummy half, and he makes players around him better.

He has the cocky confidence too.

I DO think his defense could be better, but he is pint sized, so technique and tackle selection are key, and he'd need mentoring there imo.

He IS an upgrade on Croker. Croker I believe is now at his peak (dummy half wise) and that's solid. BUT, I also think there is piles and piles of improvement and potential in Gordon, and he's at worst, at Crokers level now.

So for me, long term, I have more confidence in Gordon to go to that next level mate.

Desperately want him to succeed = improved Manly. Not convinced though from what I have seen and defence a concern. Not to say he can't fix that but at this stage I do not see him as an upgrade to Croker.

I haven’t watched a great deal of Gordie in reserves, but some passages here and there. I’m far from convinced he is the dummy half messiah. Too small and not as much mongrel in defence like Croker. That said, we so bloody need a specialist dummy half to move forward. I love Croker and believe he can still play a role (even at dummy half)…. But we desperately need a zippy real dummy half to share the role with him.

We have offloaded 4 of them this year in order to get Cooper Johns, Aaron Woods, Jake Arthur and Tommy Talau.

Gordie is a Heath Lestrange / Shayne Dunley player...comes on for 15-20 minutes to add some spark. The bulk of the minutes are Crokers.

I rate him as a great attacking weapon, who "looks up" in the ruck with game awareness and Will take advantage of a lazy marker or a hole in behind the ruck and also has a swift distribution.....I think he actually played in the halves also through junior footy, which is a great asset for any modern hooker as has both run and pass abilities and can generally play at the advantage line and push their runners over the advantage line.....Gordie ticks the boxes in ALL these categories.
Now the concern, his defence is often sound, but now and then, he has a patch of being used as a speed bump or just basically carried for 10m after contact.
Personally I like him and look forward to his debut, as he has the qualities to make an instant impact, but due to the reasons above, happy to see the Manly coaching staff make the decision in good time, as there are many positives, but the defensive deficiencies are a concern in a team that already has some loose tackling and allowing a few too many points....defence is what any Premiership contendor will have on top of their "must do" list, as your Attitude will always carry over to your attack which will flow on as a reward for doing the hard yards in defence.
Back to Gordie - I like the kid, but maybe a 2024 proposition if he improves a few key area's, but I admit would be excited to see him add strike if given the opportunity - Off the bench after 25m.

Still not sold but he has another chance to show something this week. So I might get to the start of the Blacktown game for a change to see how he goes on Sunday against the Roosters.

If he can't tackle at least as good as Croker, he will not succeed.
We have too many lazy forwards outside of Jake to not be able to carry a hooker that can't tackle.

I'd say once we know where we (Manly) is going, that is, if we have no chance of making the semi's Goordie should be given a shot in first's for sure.

It's not quite that simple. We are offloading guys who are currently cheap to replace them with cheapies, presumably because when they hit FG their market value will be in excess of what we would have free to pay them.
