The Manly DNA

Did anyone else notice Geoff Toovey in the clubs latest video where Jazz is going around interviewing players? Toovey is in the sheds with them at training with all official club gear on. Does that mean Toovey is part of the coaching/Training staff again? I bloody hope so!
He would make a Phil Gould type role at the club pretty good.

That's just a stat really, what would today's team benefit from having a former manly player as not many are coaches let alone proven coaches, against a proven coach or a highly respected and sought after coach in waiting like Ryles, Hannay etc.

I'd like that to be Ballin, but not sure he is in that category. I also don't subscribe to pooing his time as a coach in manly juniors where they hardly won a game, that means nothing

What works for one club doesn’t necessarily apply to other clubs. The history is irrefutable that Manly has only been successful with Manly people in charge.
We've had 4 Premiership-winning coaches. All four played at some point for Manly. And all of our grand finalist coaches also played for the club.

There's a reason why Barrett and Seibold haven't been that successful here. Their coaching styles don't complement the club.

So we are banking our next premiership on Matt Ballin, Michael Monaghan, Choc Watmough, Des Hasler, Chad Randall.

Who am I missing and who are we choosing...

Hasler would have got us closer to a premiership in the last 3 years than the current coach, but the results based criteria that was used to sack him post pride-gate apparently no longer applies. Hasler, Fulton, Stanton and Arko all embodied the siege mentality, win-at-all-costs attitude which distinguishes Manly from other clubs. It isn’t called the Insular Peninsular for nothing.

Clearly Penrith DNA was not required for Cleary to coach them to 4 consecutive premierships. I don't buy into the DNA theory.
Totally different clubs. We can argue until the cows come home but the facts are facts. Stanton, Fulton, Hasler are all Manly men with the winning Manly spirit. Their passion for the club was entirely genuine. Seibs has attempted to manufacture that spirits with the Manly way.

Those Manly coaches also had teams which were bolstered by the recruitment of big names such as ray Branighan, John O'Neil, Mal Reilly, Alan Thomson, Ken Irvine, johnny Mayes, gary Stephens, Knocker Norton, Phil Lowe, Steve Knight, Goldie walker, Snoz O'Connor, Crusher Cleal, Kevin Ward, Matthew Ridge, Craig Innes, cement Gillespie, Spud carroll, Jim Serdaris, Matt Orford, and Jamie Lyon.
It's a moot point to suggest no-one other than a Manly coach could have won with those teams.
