The Real MUST HAVE coach 2019

Is a Top DEFENSIVE Coach...we already score points - which will actually be more again once (IF) this area is fixed up...

The fact about Attitude being defence is accurate....but this team lacks SO much more.

I don't profess to being an NRL coach, but in my experience in rugby league there are a few basics...

* Communication - This lot in 2018 were quiet as field mice...the 2008 team would have stuck pins in them just to hear a sound
.
* Structure - We had wingers rushing in (3 men in) to tackle an edge backrower, while the others backpeddled - The edge defenders and centres would make a decision and for right or wrong the next players MUST follow that decision to close down / jam in.??

* Control - Where the trouble starts, every game the opposition has blocks of playing the ball like touch footy.
and winning the ruck.
The markers often on ground or out of play - the rest of the defensive line still getting reset.

* Contact - Too soft on many occasions allowing players to stand/ offload and a massive contribution to them
winning that fast play the ball.

* Aggression - The only fire comes from the odd shot from Jake or Thommo.....used to have teams scared to run out to play - now they run out smiling.

* Comradery - Even when there is a decent hit or good defensive play, the players rarely acknowledge it.
In the past the boys were firing each other up and appreciated the big plays which becomes contagious with the next bloke wanting to make the next big play.

Probably 100 other things, but really hope this area improves.
Having to score 36 points or more to win a game, due to letting in 5-6+ tries a game is entertaining and even more annoying to watch some of these simple tries in succession, but will keep you at the bottom of the ladder come Finals time.
Premiership teams score points, but most impotantly defend them

Now Cartwright is coach, we’ll have to hire a new defensive coach.

If we can get a good one, we’ll challenge for the top 8 next year.

It’s the worst defensive Manly team I’ve seen since around 2003 when we only just got back as Manly.

How about we take Justin Holbrook from St Helens, he seems to have the right Attack and Defence:

Holbrook turned to coaching after retiring from playing. He worked on the coaching staff of the Canterbury Bulldogs, St George Illawarra and Parramatta before joining the Sydney Roosters as right hand man to Trent Robinson.[3] Holbrook also coached at representative level for Australia (under-21).[2] He was appointed to replace Keiron Cunningham as head coach of English Super League club St. Helens on a three-year contract in May 2017.[4]
