The way forward

Let "s see how things go when the contact values of D C E , Turbo and Jake finishes and comes into effect and savings ideally redirected for a more balanced and value for money squad
In all probability , if there could have been even close to receiving some decent return on investment for those 3 high level contracts over the past 7 years or so , sure that Manly could have been that much closer to a being a more serious contender
Most leave Ola as the highest paid player then no doubt going forward then but at least for quite while now , he has been consistently one of the few players who has or can really make a competitive difference
Same will or is close to applying to Koula and reflected contract wise accordingly but still spare coin to redirect to a couple of impact forwards and somehow to then most likely soon also , to accommodate the likes of Walsh and Large and maybe one emerging 9
Agree with that , to an extent but it’s the presumption we are able to sign some decent players or decent players with potential.

That is the six million dollar question

Love your passion for this club @Mark. Keep it coming.

I think it's more of a $2.5m question. Irrespective of the $$$$'s however, the challenge continues to be the quality of decisions amongst management and coaching. Craig Walker a good start in the right direction. Several more major changes however needed if we are to have a real shot at 2026.

ps. you are correct about the Penn ROI so best to assume no changes at that level.

No , any improvement can only come from , wiser use of the cap , better ( if at all possible ) recruiting because we certainly aren’t getting,

**Unlimited funds to sign whomever when they come up.

**Loads more dollars to bring the football department from average to world class.

Mind you we are not Robinson Caruso on that front , almost all of the bottom 10 are in that predicament.

As I’ve said in this thread if it’s going to happen it will only happen from within, we cannot just “ go to market to buy a competition “ , only the top 3 or 4 can do that.

Assuming the team fails to make the finals this year, the 11 seasons from 2015-25 are the worst seasons, at first grade level, in the history of the Manly-Warringah club.

Those seasons coincide with majority control by the Penn family*, plus their silent partners, Messrs Wolman and Andrew.

Four seasons when they made the finals during that period, going no further than Week 3 on one occasion (2021), is a modest return for a club which previously had such a proud record.

*I don’t think Penn Sr. is involved anymore
Also coincides with paying 1.3 mill for an overrated half totally incapable of managing big games. Penn is part of it but the backflip of The Chaser has been our biggest albatross, both in terms of his deficiencies and polarisation of the playing group , particularly the Trbojevics.
