There is some good news

The Who

Journey Man
Got there early enough to watch the Under 20s, which is normally a horror show. We were pathetic last year, but this team showed plenty of ticker. They even defended several six-tackle raids, which never happened last year. They have some promising players, most of which have names too convoluted to type here. But the standouts to me were No. 7 and No. 3 (or 4). The centre who was also the goal kicker). There are a couple of big Islander forwards who took some stopping. The team won 52-20, which was heartening.
I'm going to follow this team . . . and then leave before that other mob take the field!

Tevita Funa is the number 3 and carved up last week as well. He seems like a very well balanced centre rather than your typical bash and barge islander backs. Can kick goals too.

Not sure who the 7 was but my mate was saying he is a Cromer junior - someone may know more.

I thought Tom Wright was classy as well and scored a nice try.

We have a real team for a change in the 20s.

Did Tom Wright play? I thought he was injured.
What number was he?

21 I think.
Yep wright was 21 played five eighth on right edge.
Watched the whole game also my thoughts for what they are worth (which I wrote elsewhere)

Very interesting game. First half we only seemed to attack down our left side and Fainu (7) and Funa (3). dominated. Second half We seemed to switch to the right and Olakau'atu (11) and Wright (21)ran riot. Great all round game though and our middle set the platform for a very good performance.

And a real coach in Lamkin

A glimmer of light along with the Holden Cup boys on an otherwise gloomy weekend. Both Harold Matts and SG Ball towelled up Penrith today 38-6 and 38-10 respectively. I'd imagine Penrith would have fairly decent junior squads so good results for both.

At last the juniors are a high standard. Great to see T. Wright at 5/8, his correct position. Wright may well be the missing link in first grade at 5/8, though it may not be until '18 that we see him in that position. He would certainly take a lot of pressure off DCE if he continued to develop

Got there for the 2nd half. Damn hot for the boys. I found the dummy half No 22 was really busy. Yes, No 3 is okay, hope he develops further. Over the years, we have bagged the defence in this competition but it stood out yesterday when you see that the forwards do put hits on and can defend. It seems to be the edge defence where the teams are hiding their halves and any smaller player. They will always struggle against the bigger guy until they develop further.

I don't think Wright & DCE will compliment each other, considering their styles. Now that I have said this, I am sure I will be proven wrong when they are in the same team.

Interesting that Manly's junior sides, Matthews, Ball and U20s are all doing well and Blacktown Workers two lower grades Sydney Shield and Massey Cup sides are also succeeding. Only Manly's firsts and Blacktown's firsts are falling in a hole.
