We didn't miss out on Moylan the 2nd time around

Snake's Alive!
We pulled out of the Moylan race over a month ago. He WASN'T toying between Manly and Sharks in the last week or two so I have no idea where the DT got this idea that we are "turning our attention to Pearce now that we missed out on Moylan".

We had nothing to give the Panthers to enforce a swap. Green is not a straight swap for Moylan, but Maloney (a current Australian rep) kinda is. So Penrith were only ever going to waive the 250k transfer fee if they could get something of equal or more value.

We pulled out of the Moylan race when it became clear that Penrith weren't interested in just letting Moylan walk for nothing...they needed something in return...lots of money or a replacement half.

Not sure that Cronulla has made such a great deal. Moylan is an outstanding player, but is he the answer for 5/8. And with their loss of Bird, their backline has lost some potency. Penrith meantime have an outstanding 5./8 to complement young Cleary

I'd rather a party boy who puts in on the field than a prima donna any day of the week.

Agree we lost the race long time ago.. It annoys me though to think that the shark fu*kers are still in the hunt for Pearce.. If they can pull that off they will have an extremely formidable side with both Pearce and Moylan in there. Also glad that maloney went to the riff.... Hope it bites Gould in the arse.

Very much a risk purchase where in this deal to start with, Penrith win for mine. At least you know exactly what you get from Maloney week in week out, and they know they have one current, and some other very young halves who are only going to benefit from some stability and experience around them for a couple of years. I can see him playing two of the reported three years of the deal, then maybe heading over to UK for a few more. He'll be overtaken by then, much like soward was at the club.
For whatever reasons, be it too much pressure on him so early, or a poor attitude on his behalf, Penrith were never going to get stability from Moylan. They don't want that rubbing off onto others, especially Cleary who they look to have managed in a completely different way to how they did Moylan. Moylan obviously has potential and I think in time will live up all expectations - not sure that will come in a pearing with Townsend though, so might take a few seasons, but it just as equally could fizz out if he does in fact have attitude issues.

My thoughts exactly. Panthers will have a much better combo with Maloney/Cleary than the Sharks with Moylan/Townsend.

Also can't see the Sharks having cap space, or any space, to add Pearce.

They should have cap space because they did a player swap.. Even Steven.. As if nothing happened.. Well they got the better deal IMO.

I just want to know who is going to do the goal kicking at Penrith next year.....Cleary or Maloney?

That's one of the biggest things the Sharks have lost out of this. Maloney's goal kicking because Moylan's kicking isn't that good in comparison.
