most clubs from memory are at some point in the first two weeks of November so they can usually get 6 weeks of light work in before xmas break, then come back with foot on the pedal. Usually the non finals teams tend to be the first ones back, deeper you go, later you tend to start.
Why a long season, half the comp is playing this stupid "World Cup".
Players would prefer to play than do pre season training.
First week of November for sure, Rep members probably not until the New Year.

Look pre-season training has already started for me (and other fans) - Green still won't win us a comp, Kelly still hesitates in defence, Brown still fails to impose himself (except on our salary cap) and Winterstein still hasn't got any younger (despite all the chances we've given him).
Pre-season training is in full swing, from what I can see.
edit- oh yes, and Lussick is still an ill-disciplined hot-head.

Actually I was being serious I am pretty sure 7th is the start date ;-)
