SEA Eagles recruit Jack Gosiewski has arrived at the club with a point to prove after living through a rugby league player’s worst nightmare last year.

The 23-year-old edge forward was sidelined for virtually all of the 2017 season with the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

“I had surgery on my knee in January and came back from that in round 20 and then hyper extended my knee and was out for the rest of the season,” he said.

“So I played one game.

“I want to prove a point to myself that I belong at this level of football.

“And if I stay injury free I believe I will go well and hopefully can play most of the season.”

And Gosiewski appreciates the vote of confidence from the Sea Eagles to give him a new footballing home.

“I was off contract and Baz (coach Trent Barrett) has given me a chance and I am happy to be here,” he said.

Gosiewski was attracted to the Sea Eagles because he liked what he saw on the northern beaches.

“I thought there will be an opportunity for me and there is a good young squad,” he said. “

“I want to be in the round one squad so I’d say that is my goal.”

Gosiewski has already had a boost since joining the Sea Eagles when he was named in Brad Fittler’s Emerging Blues squad along with Manly team mates Brian Kelly, Lachlan Croker and Luke Metcalf.

“I was very surprised but excited,” he said.

“I didn’t play any junior reps or anything like that.”

Gosiewski and his three Sea Eagles team mates will go into camp on Saturday at ANZ Stadium where they will receive specialist coaching from Andrew Johns, Craig Fitzgibbon, Matt King, Mark O’Meley, Anthony Minichiello and Fittler.

“These players will be the backbone of the NSW Origin team going forward,” the incoming Blues coach Fittler said.

“They all have a big future,”

And the camp is an experience that the footballer who hails from Mullumbimby on the NSW north coast is really looking forward to.

“It will be good to just go in and learn a bit about their culture and what they expect as a state,” Gosiewski said.

Not sure where he gets a run unless there are injuries. Talk of extending Siro indicates they are happy with his form and Thompson is a definite starter. Both of them can play 80 minutes too. But I suppose neither of them have been named in an emerging Blues squad though, so Jack has someone interested in his potential.

There’s also Winterstein, it’s a problem but it’s a good problem to have.

They have also extended Winterstein but that does not guarantee him a starting spot . I rate Jack a better player than Siro . I have seen him play and injury free he will prove himself to every one

Well it's a long season ... he'll get his chance ... and good luck to him, if he gets a FG gig then he will have beaten off some pretty good opposition. (no pun intended)

He will have to do what Laconic Lane didn't do last year ... and that is rip and tear in reggies and Make Baz take notice.

Yeh I'm not 100% sold on Siro yet, think there is room for improvement on that side of the park - whether it is Siro or someone else remains to be seen.

We are stacked in the forwards. Incredibly exciting, if they click they will destroy opposing forwards.
Interesting how we are pumping up our expectations despite only minor adjustments to our roster.

The key is the number of young forwards we have. Obviously Jake but also Siro, Perrett, AFB, Lane all improving, and few new ones such as Gozi Sip and Paseka now coming through. Certainly looks like we now have power and depth in the forwards.

We may not 'destroy' all opposing forwards but I doubt we will be overpowered by anyone this year, and that's a fantastic place to start. High hopes!

Jack Gosiewski reminded me of Rambo when I saw him run and tackle . He has that intimidating no fear factor .
Rambo first made a success on the movie set with first blood .
Trent Barrett can make a success on the field with Young Blood and young talent like Jack Gosiewski .

Yeah, it's amazing the difference a year makes.
Some astute lowish key recruitment (except for Thommo of course) and the growth of quite a few promising young guys and we are in really good shape...just about across the whole roster.
The sky really is the limit for the next 4 or 5 years and i'm excited to see HOW MANY of the up and comers DO excel... not IF ANY will.

This roster has the makings of another Manly dynasty but the BIG challenge will be to advance and RETAIN the good ones.
There WILL be 2, 3 or 4 guys that grow and will become very good FG players and by the nature of the beast, they will require chunks of the cap to retain.

For it to work we will need a great balance of finances and roster as we are not allowed to operate under the same cap rules as some others.

One, just one, needless big money recruit WILL jeopardise our financial ability to foster and retain 4, 5 or 6 members of this great base.
I'm really happy we missed out on Pearce...the million bucks a year would have destroyed what we WILL have if we manage it properly.

It's ALWAYS about the next 4 or 5 years. I hope Baz learns this and realises HIS future here relies on and comes from that.
