Played 16 games for first grade for the Roosters first grade side this year… he’s also played 130 games of reserve grade across his career, so definitely NSW Cup standard at the very least. No where near Ron Massey level. He’s an upgrade on GCKT that’s for sure. Much more versatile too, with the ability to play hooker, lock or in the halves. Only reason the Roosters aren’t re-signing him is because they’re stacked with hookers/utilities with Robson, Watson and young Ioelu coming through now too.

I was taking the piss a little, but still not a signing I want at the club to be honest. I don't know why we aren't chasing Corey Paix he is off contract or even Luke Sommerton he would still be an upgrade on ZDC

I don't think Seibold's problem is with these sorts of players either, it's with senior players and star talent. I think the club might be picking Seibold over Turbo, and that's crossing the line for me. Letting Turbo walk to keep Seibold as head coach is bat **** crazy.

Agree, it's bad enough that DCE decided to walk but if Turbo walks too then that's just a bridge too far - especially for a coach that has said he's not in for the long haul.

We have 2 young guys that could be a chance of first grade over the next few years. Doesn’t hurt to have an older experienced player as a back up until they are ready IMO. With GCKT & Croker gone we need a few body’s in the top 30 on cheap deals

How do we know he is on a cheap deal? We have a tendency to over pay and give multiple year deals to people that warrant 1 year take it or leave it deals. I'm sorry but he is nsw cup standard. We should not be offering these type of nothing players multiple year deals.

To make it clear I'm talking about him as a footballer I assume he is a great guy but as a player I don't rate him.

We do need to remember we have let a LOT of players go , and we HAVE to have 30 in our list , so like every other year our list will include some players who are only likely play some games if we are heavily hit with injury.

Examples of that in recent years , Matterson & Schoupp , neither would be anywhere near the top 22 normally.

So , not every player will be a superstar or a great kid with potential , but you have to have them so there would be recruitment happening at all clubs filling spots 29/30 with absolute minimum payment players.

Like most I’d certainly prefer better players to be coming but we shouldn’t be getting our knickers in a knot about those for positions 29/30.

We know it’s a cheap deal because manly have at least 3+ other roster spots to fill with little salary cap wiggle room. All the other signings for 2026 will be underwhelming cheapies like this too

Doubt ZDC would get much game time at all really. Could be bargain basement contract to balance the books. Lucky to be even named in the 22 each week. Did not really push for a spot when he was here under the BWSE.
I see it as coverage in case of injury whilst Zaidis is still developing and potential Croker MR. Would have preferred other options like Paix or Summerton, potentially Brendan Hands as I cannot see him getting a run at the Eels behind Smith and De Silva

if this is the quality of our signings forget it we gave him two year deal why? to pay him more in 27 when we have more cap space?. I'm not convinced we got him as cheap as he should be. One year would have been plenty

So how much did we sign him on? Seems you know more than the rest of us. Any time we’ve signed 1 of these 30+ year olds like Lodge, TKO, Brown etc it’s been on cheap or minimum wage deals. Why would this be different?

This looks like one of those times when you just have to take what you can get. I agree with others, this makes it look much more likely Froggy is headed for medical retirement. That would leave us with Simpkin and pretty much nobody else, so we grabbed what we could for a backup. At least ZDC, well he knows what he is supposed to do if we have to call on him. Would have preferred a 1 year deal but I would guess 2 years was the cost of doing business.

Never stood out in his previous stint with us, but looked a serviceable first grade option at the roosters from what I saw. But tbh, I think that reflects more on the roosters structures than his natural ability - just as likely to revert to BWSE levels under our expert “coaching” and (non existent) systems.
