Initially when I saw this I almost exploded into an uncontrollable rage, almost....!

But then I read what Turdy said and it all makes perfect and fair sense, well done NRL.

Scam really deserves to cheat openly and in view for all the world to see. He has proved to be a great fine upstanding purple scum two contract cheater behind closed doors so does deserve to advance to public cheating. He really is very talented apart from being an experienced cheat, he also has skills in martial arts that he uses often on opposition players. Such as amazing elbow blows to the head or neck, choker holds and incredible arm and leg twists that cause pain/injury and even for the lucky ones sometimes long term pain/injury on opposition players. He is also a knowledgable referee who has worked up the ranks to be the top official and so kindly assists the refs in each and every game he plays by gently telling them what the rules are exactly. He is so multi skilled it is unbelievable for just one bloke to be so talented.

And Thurston, another deserving player to be handed a brown paper bag in pure day light. Such a talent he is especially for his ability to drink alcohol excessively. His service to the community is to be admired, like the times he was was charged with public drunkenness after being arrested outside his flat semi-naked in 2008. And the time outside a Brisbane casino after 4am in the morning where he was arrested and charged with public nuisance. He is just so thoughtful to help keep police officers in jobs by allowing them to arrest him. He is just so kind and he really does so much behind closed doors. That it was only through unofficial sources that it came out how he did not seek any financial benefit whatsoever from either red bull or stilnox for his awareness campaign on their products. Surely this is just a story I mean really, how can one man be so caring. But JT does truly have so many amazing talents especilly the one where he can take off his own headgear with his own two hands without mind you using the jaws of life to extract it from his oversized cranium. And then low and behold he incredibly hands it to a lucky fan. And just when you thought surely he can't seriously be skilled in anything else, well you thought wrong. Because JT, is also able to whinge for long periods of time, sometimes without even taking a breath at game officials and anyone really in ear shot, just astounding really.

Ok aside from my obvious sarcasm here. I am absolutely 110% disgusted with how this could even be considered let alone allowed. It is outrageous and wrong on every single level. I honestly believe the management and fans from the other 14 clubs need to push back on this, this is dead set cheating, no other word for it. Totally unacceptable.
One of the best posts I've read.

How about Brad Arthur on Fox yesterday afternoon. He was asked if Semi wants to come back to the NRL would he be able to accommodate him. His response was "If Semi wants to come back he knows we have things in place to fit him in. Trust me, if Semi comes back to the NRL he'll be playing for Parramatta." Bare in mind he's on a massive contract in Rugby, so he won't come cheap. And yet Arthur just boasts about fitting him in no questions asked. They've bought Moses, Kane Evans, the prop from Souths, Pritchard, Vave, Matagi, Smith, Auvaa amongst others. Upgraded Norman etc etc. were around a million over the cap and let go Peats and Paulo....,were gifted a retirement of Choc, and we're the ones Greenberg is investigating. Oh and they're getting a brand new stadium because their current one is so outdated. The list goes on and on, I just can't think right now because @Shoe1, I've ditched the Peroni and picked up the Makers Mark.

Haha nice one Shoe, perhaps the flavour was somewhat exaggerated by the fact I'd just finished building a job that will pay on Monday and the better half agreed to go down to the caravan at Brooklyn. But yeah.....
Good spot Brooklyn

CLUBS FURIOUS NRL HAS ENDORSED TESTIMONIAL FOR THURSTON, SMITH
Paul Crawley, The Daily Telegraph
September 1, 2017 7:20pm

MANLY are one of several clubs furious at the NRL about being kept in the dark over being able to stage a salary cap-exempt testimonial game like the one being offered to Cameron Smith and Johnathan Thurston.

The NRL claims it started to formulated the policy a year ago but clubs were not made aware of the decision.

Sea Eagles coach Trent Barrett said if they were aware of the loophole, they would have explored the possibility of giving club favourites Brett Stewart, Jamie Lyon and Steve Matai a testimonial game.

Rival clubs were furious following revelations in The Daily Telegraph that NRL boss Todd Greenberg has endorsed a deal that will allow Melbourne and North Queensland to exploit next year’s salary cap by a combined $1.5 million.

In what is seen as another blatant salary cap inconsistency, a trial is being planned at Suncorp Stadium in February where Smith and Thurston, two of the game’s highest paid players, will pocket all gate takings, sponsorship, merchandise and potential TV rights.

Sharks coach Shane Flanagan said the revelations opened up “a can of worms” but the NRL responded by saying it had formulated guidelines to outline who would be eligible for a testimonial game — a player must have been at a club for at least 10 consecutive years, racked up 250 NRL appearances, already be contracted for the season of the testimonial game which must be a trial with a charity component.

The NRL will also consider the player’s standing in the game and whether they have “had off-field and integrity issues” before giving its approval.

Manly have been wearing the salary cap pain from Stewart and Matai’s departure this year, carrying the final year of their salaries on the cap despite the fact neither player has taken the field.

Coincidentally, Sea Eagles fans will be given the chance to say goodbye to Stewart at Saturday’s blockbuster final round clash against Penrith at Brookvale.

Club stalwart Matt Ballin will also be in attendance, although Matai won’t because of family commitments.

Barrett has no doubt Manly fans would have turned up in droves to honour their former greats if the club had been made aware of the loophole being offered to Smith and Thurston.

“It would have been nice for us to be able to do that for a Matai, a Snake or a Lyon,” Barrett said.

“It doesn’t seem like a level playing field to me. I am sure our administration will want clarification on how this is possible.”

One rival club boss revealed how there was genuine shock recently when Melbourne and North Queensland agitated for a lower salary cap during negotiations with the NRL.

The timing is also not a good look for Smith, given he is the Rugby League Players’ Association’s general president and has been a vocal critic of the NRL during the ongoing pay dispute.

“If you play 15 years and 350 games and JT’s played about 300 and it’s got the OK by the NRL good luck to them,” Storm coach Craig Bellamy said.

“It’s out of my hands but to me it’s pretty hard to begrudge those guys after what they’ve done for the game.”

Clubs could potentially pay less for veteran players in their final years but top up the money with “testimonial” earnings, that would not be included in the cap however the NRL says a club must already be paying a player “market value” before they’d agree to a testimonial game.

Now the match for Smith and Thurston has been revealed, South Sydney could do the same for John Sutton once they sign him for next year while Brisbane could do likewise for Sam Thaiday, another tremendous one-club servants.

Minimum Criteria for NRL approval to stage a testimonial match:

1. The player must have been contracted and completed 10 or more consecutive years with the club as a top 25/30 player

2. He must have played at least 250 first grade games for the club

3. Player cannot have left the NRL (e.g. Contract overseas or played another code professionally)

4. The player must already have a contract registered for the year in which the testimonial will be held. This means the club is already paying the player market value for that year

5. The testimonial can only be held as a trial game

6. There needs to be a charity component to the testimonial

7. The match will form part of the existing broadcast agreement

Further Considerations

8. Player’s standing within the game (e.g. Origin player, international player, seniority)

9. Whether the player has had off-field and integrity issues

(Proven salary cap cheat, Coffs Harbour/Brisbane Casino)

10. Whether the player has contributed to the game outside his NRL club duties

Testimonials were relevant in pre premier league era in the English soccer leagues. It was a good way for long serving soccer players to get a good payout for years of service (before they were millionaires).

To install this now in rugby league for two of the most well paid players is beyond a joke.

Yes. The idea of a mega-cash bonus for 2 of the richest players to ever have laced on a boot is totally contrary to the game's working class roots and character. A testimonial for players unfortunately injured would be a fine idea - Taniela Tuaki, McKinnon, and young unknowns who have also been crippled - but to pay the likes of Thurston and Smith is bizarre and, well, quite disgusting (in my humble opinion)!

The fact that Greenturd condones Scams double contract Cap Cheating, with a behaviour of what people agree of as integrity, speaks volumes about his values :swear:

Just on the salary cap. Can anyone possibly explain how the Rorters can fit all these players under the salary cap. The NRL is so corruptly run yet they think supporters are so dumb not to see it. The useless fuking cops ought to be investigating Greenturd rather than anything else for fixing.
