As long as the game is dictated too by nine and fox this will not change

Our Round 5 game with Souths should be the Friday not Thursday. Give the Titans v Broncs the Thursday game. Their crowd number will be the same at the Titans home ground.

Just read a comment from Greenberg about what they considered when completing the draw:

Mr Greenberg also stressed that player welfare was a strong consideration through negotiations with broadcasters Channel Nine and Fox Sports.
----------------------------
"We wanted to ensure both fans and players benefited from the schedule," Mr Greenberg said. "Importantly, we worked hard to ensure there was no increase in five-day turnarounds following feedback from the players.
----------------------------
Seems strange to stress player welfare and a reduction in 5 day turn arounds then give Manly the draw they have.

That's because he's a lieing sack of sht. Makes me sick every time I see it.

What's the bet Teflon Toddy does sweet FA
He'll do nothing if he's not forced to. The clubs should demand the right to be consulted before the final version is released. Maybe Manly and any other clubs lumbered with these 5-day turnarounds should consider legal action on the basis of the increased health risk?

Both Dan Ferris head of physical performance and Luke Inman new Manly doctor comment on the five day turn around for players in the Hersld.
The AFL have no such draws and Inman has been with the Swans ....will be an asset to the club.
However these decisions are made by guys on top who rake in the money for Rugby League and put the players welfare at a minimum.
Manly asked for Sunday games and look what they got.....Mondays. Interesting how West Tigers went in the draw seeing NRL partly owns them. Not what you know........

Surprised that the NRL don't release the draw to Clubs as a first draft, prior to the media release.@

What is the input of the NRL's Concussion Team?

Sounds like the RLPA had zero input too
That might hapen if someone with an ounce of intelligence was running the NRL instead of someone who just panders to the influential clubs and channel 9

The draw should be equitable so that every team shares every day and time slot evenly.

Anything less is a biased competition. The NRL are gradually taking any enjoyment out of watching footy these days and the day will come when a lot of supporters just won't bother with the game any more.

The clubs that have been disadvantaged should tell the NRL to get fuxcked and play their own competition See how channel 9 and fox like that

Total weasel words from Greenberg. If Greenberg took the concerns about player safety seriously, he would not have kept the same number of 5 day turnaround games as this year - like he has done.

He would not have even reduced them.

He would have eliminated them. This is totally feasible, and simply devised.
Assume one game on Thursdays, one on Fridays, three on Saturdays, two on Sundays and one on Mondays. There are:
* four teams from which to select for the Thursday game;
* ten teams from which to select for the Friday game; and
* fourteen teams from which to select for the Saturday game
* all without any conflict.

All other games are totally free choices. If they don't have the people to devise a draw following those simple principles, then heaven help the game.

Most games are on the crowd-preferred Saturday and Sunday timeslots (normally 5 out of 8 = 63%). How then does Manly only get a total of 2 home games on Saturday/Sunday out of the 7 Brookvale games announced in the draw? (=29%) Are we being deliberately scuppered? Please explain Greenberg. Publicly. Then fix it.

If it unfair, it is unsafe, it is ludicrous to have the draw Greenberg has devised and published. I would fully support Manly announcing, based on expert medical advice, and based on clear and dramatic inequities in the draw, that they will need to seriously consider forfeiting the middle game of the 10 day period. Plus any other action necessary to highlight and fix the problems.

I bet they don't forfeit but gee wouldn't that throw a cat amongst the pigeons if they did.

I agree they should run out ( injuries permitting) a lesser side BUT then they will blow their second tier cap.

It's a " lose / lose" scenario.

How hard is it to swap a couple of games ?

These people take stupid to a whole new level.

As has been said by me and numerous others one many occasions....the interests of the governing body, the broadcasters and the clubs (read fans) are in direct conflict with each other. As long as this continues to be the case, we will be getting royally reamed year in, year out.

If you've ever seen the complexity of a timetable in a high school, you'd understand what sort of idiots we're dealing with here. Hundreds of classes and teachers have to be scheduled so that there is no overlap or unfair concentration of lessons. Compare that to the relative simplicity of an NRL draw.

Face it people. Manly don't matter. They're just another Sydney club, playing out of a ground the NRL despise. Don't expect any favours any time soon.

The NRL have a duty of care to protect players from burn out and the fact the 3 clubs have to deal with 4 x 5 day turnarounds and those clubs are Manly, Easts and West Tigers shows that the Sydney clubs play the price so that certain clubs get leg ups during the season.

Greenburg and his team have failed miserably in this and as earlier readers have suggested, the club needs to work with the affected clubs and ensure this does not happen again.

The AFL has a policy that none of their 18 clubs has a shorter turnaround than 6 days. Why cant we do this in the NRL? The AFL also has media obligations and the favored clubs get looked after in relation to plum TV times.

The only silver lining is that this happens early in the season rather than later. Barrett will need to rotate the squad to cope with this. To face the Sharks, Chooks and Vermin during this period is tough enough.

The fact that Manly requested Sunday arvo home games and we got one is again something that is really disappointing and I wonder how many empty seats we see at Brookvale on the Monday and Thursday night games especially.

NRL to meet Manly Sea Eagles officials over player burnout fears from draw
Date November 29, 2015 - 5:32PM

NRL head of football Todd Greenberg will meet with angry Manly officials to discuss concerns about player welfare but the fact that the three games the Sea Eagles will play in 10 days are all in Sydney is unlikely to result in any change to the draw.

Players are not robots that you plug in and recharge on demand
RLPA president Clint Newton

Greenberg has already discussed the issue by phone with new Manly coach Trent Barrett, chief executive Joe Kelly and strategic football consultant Bob Fulton over the weekend but will listen to their concerns in person about having to face Cronulla, Sydney Roosters and South Sydney between Monday, March 21 and Friday, March 31.

Oh he'll listen to the concerns in person alright.

And he'll nod and rub his chin and act all concerned.

And then promptly do SFA.

Barrett, Joke and Bozo are wasting their time and their breathe. A fact I'm sure all 3 are aware of.

Simon 64......great analogy on school timetable and its difficulty compared to a simple NRL draw. Maybe should have given it to a class of ten year olds to do a better job.....
Nothing will happen.....same old. Look after the Broncos.....no Monday games......
Convinced some of these decision makers never played the game, particularly three in ten days. Interchange next year also makes it harder on players. At least Roosters and Politis will whinge too.

I know this is optimistic, but maybe this is a blessing in disguise. With the change over of players this year the fear is that the Manly "us against them" culture would fade. If the boys can get through the first 1/4 of the draw relatively unscathed it will definitely bring them together and toughen their resolve. If any team can do it, it's Manly.

It shows how much the TV stations (Nein and Foxtel) dictate who plays when. Its all about ratings and a return on their billion dollar 'investement'. And shock horror the teams that rate higher (i.e. Brisbane, Souffs, Speels) have been looked after with FTA games on Friday's and Sunday's when it comes to the draw while those who don't attract the higher ratings (e.g. Manly) have been well and truly shafted.

Get used to it, that and virtual crowds!!
